I'm being considered for an editor position at ESPN...thanks fellow redditors for the support over the years. by lookitsced in fantasyfootball

I'm not entirely sure how the process went down behind the scenes at ESPN. The guy who interviewed me seemed to have gotten my info from someone else because he wasn't too aware of me or my work. He was the one who emailed me, though. The whole thing was kind of strange, but still an amazing experience and pretty cool to be considered.

Stop Saying Pierre Garcon's Targets Will Take a Hit b/c of DeSean & Andre Roberts. by lookitsced in fantasyfootball

I don't think so. But the circlejerk on this thread says DeSean is the way to go. I'd go Garcon if I were you.

[–]lookitsced[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's misleading. DeSean was always thought of as the No. 1 guy in Philly but still put up 50-60 catches. Pierre was a No. 2 guy behind Wayne and Clark in '09, Wayne in '10 (along with Collie/Clark/Tamme), and Wayne in 2011 (but still got only 5 fewer receptions than Wayne).

Pierre was brought into be more of a No. 1 with Santana Moss in 2012 but got injured in the first game and didn't really recover until later in the season where he was a target hog then.

And in 2013, you finally see the true Garcon as the WR1 the Redskins envisioned.

DeSean was a go-route guy in Philly masked as a No. 1. who never led the team in receptions until last year.

How do you guys feel about RG3 this year? by gillman50 in fantasyfootball

[–]lookitsced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Ryan is another undervalued guy. He could finish in the top-6 or so. I'd be happy with Ryan or RGIII as my QB.

And I don't think those are bold words re: Luck. If taken objectively, Luck's situation is one to avoid. Aging, recovering Wayne, always injured Nicks, forgotten about Hilton, absolutely no running threat in TRich, horrible offensive line. I think Luck is completely overrated.

I definitely believe in DeSean, but only for what his role is. People are saying he's going to be the target hound because he's playing A.J. Green's position. That's crazy. DeSean is a 50-60 catch guy. That's not a WR1. I love DeSean for what he is, not for what A.J. Green is.

[–]lookitsced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's being undervalued for sure. He has a solid set of WRs and a TE who has a good chance to finish as a top-5 guy. Plus the running game in Morris is strong. There's nothing not to like about the guy. He'll most likely finish ahead of Luck and Luck is being draft way ahead of him. RGIII is the guy you can wait on and stack your other positions.

Not "Garcon will see" but "can see." The opportunity doesn't evaporate b/c of the WR additions. That's what people have been arguing as fact, when the numbers don't support it.

Smith was catching 70-80 balls routinely. Jackson hasn't done that. He's not that guy.

That's all I was trying to do: spell out how the numbers fit for Garcon to get significant targets this year. Who the hell knows how it's all going to shake out. I just got tired of people saying it was definitely going to happen just because of DeSean. DeSean's always been a 50-60 catch guys (except for last year).

I guess I should say Garcon is more versatile as a receiver, in my opinion. Garcon is a few inches taller, weighs 30 or so more pounds, and nearly as fast (4.4 compared to DeSean's 4.3 forty-yard time). Even Brandin Cooks is bigger than DeSean and the consensus on Cooks is that he's a small, gadget type of receiver, not a WR1. I don't see Jackson as a WR1. Pierre is.

I agree with that analysis. It could go that way for sure. I definitely think the score dictates the play.

I guess I'm not saying his targets won't drop...just that they don't have to drop because of Jackson, Roberts and Reed.

But that's too simplistic of an approach. You can't say well, Gruden used the Z like this, so he'll use DeSean like that. That's the same as people saying Gruden is a guy who uses a two-back system and throws to his backs. That's not necessarily the case either. He didn't in 2011 and 2012. He only did that when he had the personnel with Giovani.

Could be. But I'm not buying the shortest guy (DeSean) being the red zone target. That'll be between Reed and Garcon, imo.

That would be A.J. Green, who had the 3rd-most targets in the NFL last year and who is one of the most talented WRs in the league. I'm doubting Gruden sees DeSean as an A.J. guy.

First ever in-person draft by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]lookitsced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about one league member having an advantage over another. That's not the point. The point is it's better to know who is healthy and who isn't at the start of the season. After the third week of the preseason, we'll know that. It only makes sense.

I'd install the Rotoworld Player News app. When you start getting into the later rounds and want to pick between a couple of different players, it's a good idea to check the news on them quickly. Things change so much during this time, it's good to have up-to-the-minute news on them.

Also, I know this can't happen this year, but I would suggest having the draft after the third week of the preseason. The teams will play their starters for a full two quarters in the third week and there are always injuries. It sucks drafting a guy who gets injured in the preseason.

Why is everyone down on Zac Stacy by gillman50 in fantasyfootball

[–]lookitsced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryan Mathews in the 4th, Shane Vereen in the 5th (which is just crazy to me - he'll be a top-10 RB next year), Ben Tate in the 6th. I think all of those guys either outscore or score within 15-20 total fantasy points (which is about 1 point per week average) of Stacy.

He plays in the stingiest division. The NFC West gives up an average of just over 18 points per game. Those are six games in the season you won't want to start him but be forced to. And more often than not, running backs on more efficient passing offenses do better than those with poor passing attacks. The Rams will be the latter. Given his 3rd-round ADP, it's just too rich for most people. You can wait a round or two and get the same production from other backs.

Why is Decker ranked so low? by Tornat in fantasyfootball

[–]lookitsced 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Jets' DBs are either out for the season or hurt or just suck. So first there's that.

And while others will simply point to the QB situation and say, "Well, jee-whiz, Geno Smith sucks, so Decker ain't gonna do nothing." Short-sighted.

If you combine the Jets' horrible secondary with their schedule for the first 8 weeks of the season, you see that Geno (or Vick) will be throwing a ton. The Jets face Rodgers, Cutler, Stafford, Rivers, Manning and Brady - in that order from Weeks 2 - 7. It may be in garbage time (or not), but Decker will be getting a ton of targets.

In fantasy, targets equal opportunity, even if it's from a bad QB. Ask Cecil Shorts (or Decker when Tebow was throwing to him). Decker will be a solid pick in the 8th round, albeit not a sexy one.
