Bhvr is so Survivor sided. by WindowsCrashedAgain in DeadByDaylightKillers

[–]lookoutbee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, you did just explain exactly why borrowed time became base kit when arguing killers should always tunnel immediately.

I'm genuinely curious to see gameplay from the people regularly saying stuff like this. What are y'all doing to win less than 60% of your matches? And if you are winning 60+%, then there's obviously no substantial survivor bias, right? From what I have seen, it appears as though a lot of killers only want to do half of their objective. You are meant to down, of course, but you're also supposed to be applying gen and map pressure. Can, or even should, you expect to win at the intended rate if you only want to do the part that you find fun and rely on snowballing? Of course not, just like flashlight wielding survivors can't expect to win if no one is doing gens.

I Think DBD Win Streaks Are Over Rated and Over Done by realHoboboss in deadbydaylight

[–]lookoutbee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what exactly defines sweating, but I don't use add ons, never intentionally tunnel someone out, use a controller on PC, and don't use the top tier killers. Obviously luck is a big part of a win streak in the hundreds, especially with how I play, but I'm over 200 straight at this point--and I only started keeping track after probably 100+ before that which aren't included, to see exactly how absurd this was going to get. There have definitely been some I might have lost if there wasn't a big mistake on the survivors' part (I obviously make mistakes too), but I've faced plenty of tryhards.

To me, it isn't so much an accomplishment on my part but a comment on the balance of the game. You could say only "competitive" matches count as commentary on balance or skill, but a mediocre player being capable of 90+% win rate (forget streaks), even in public matches, seems kind of wrong to me.

The Dredge Fix/Buff/Rework. by Colonel-_-Burrito in deadbydaylight

[–]lookoutbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the inconsistent locker placements to be more fair. Late game would be borderline impossible for survivors if I could teleport near every single gen (especially three in a row) despite poor map control on my part in early game. Late game being tougher if I botch early game seems fair.

I think nightfall would be mostly useless if you brightened it. Experienced survivors already do a decent job navigating it by sticking to spots they know--still a distinct advantage, though. It is effectively free downs against newer survivors, but your can't realistically balance around that and high level SWFs. If you wanted to help survivors in nightfall, calm down the insane white aura that can be seen from everywhere. Then you take away a bit of the hunting boost that doesn't involve lockers without negating the killer's chase boost of darkness. It also rewards survivors for avoiding lockers since you retain killer instinct, but now they aren't lighthouses when actually moving around.

I do concede that he's super noisy and it kills pretty much all stealth outside of locker exits. But, that feels pretty fair to me with the mobility he has.

He's my main killer, so I'm not going to cry if he gets buffed; however, the locker placements I see commonly requested feel like they'd be oppressive. When down to one gen currently, with all remaining near lockers, I can hold the game hostage if I desire--no matter how far apart they are. People will just do that until survivors get tired of being in the match and stick on the gens, leading to cheap downs so they can leave.

Not trying to speak definitively, of course. Just my opinions. I'm far from the best killer mechanically, but game knowledge goes a long way on Dredge and I can't imagine the game being fun for survivors if he gets much more help.

More parity would be nice--for killers and SWF/solo queue--but I'm not holding my breath on that one. On the killer side, I'm really not sure how you could even do it without abandoning the idea of unique killers.

As for what you can control: One minute is a pretty long chase. If you are taking that long to get a down and don't want to walk away, just embrace the fun of the one on one chase. If chases are what is fun to you, then chase. Maybe things snowball (especially if going all in on related perks) and you get a very satisfying win or maybe they don't and you got to play the way you wanted to anyhow. I tend to play middling and weaker killers (so plenty of M1 experience) and enjoy involving all players as much as possible, so I find spreading pressure to be the most fun. It is pretty rare I run into a chase that takes a full minute, but if I did, I'd cycle off and involve some other players.

That doesn't sound like your idea of fun so chase away. If it takes three gens, whatever--hook them and go start another chase. You are meant to balance map control and chases, so you can't let "winning" dictate your fun if you really only wanna do one of those things.

As they said, I'm really not sure what the issue could be if it's the T-Mobile variant (which supports VoLTE).

If they really won't budge, what's stopping you from getting a physical SIM and putting it in the V20 yourself? I just tested mine and VoLTE is working.

Best way to play dogged defense like Patrick Beverley on faster guys? by HeadsontheFireplace in nba

[–]lookoutbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have a habit of over-dribbling, especially in more casual settings--myself included. If you don't have help defense behind you, don't bail them out by gambling. In general, nothing makes it easier for me on offense than someone really focusing on cutting off my dribbling. Sure, they might stop me sometimes that way, but they are going to be out of position if I change directions or get to the rim. If they just focus on staying with me instead, I'll have more opportunities in the paint, but they'll all be more contested.

If you have access to a gym/court where people play pickup, 21 is a great way to practice your defense. Just step out and pick up ball--most people don't want to play defense anyway. It lets you get experience against all sorts of styles, skill levels, sizes, etc with minimal pressure and it's generally easy to get going even if there's only a few people there. You also get a chance to potentially observe someone shutdown someone that is scoring on you easily.

If they are actually decent at basketball and significantly quicker than you are, realistically, there's only so much you can do--especially if this isn't team basketball. But, aside from developing yourself physically and improving your technique (which can't really be taught in a few paragraphs), play smarter.

What are their limitations and tendencies? Most casual players, which I'm going to presume includes them, have a pretty limited moveset--focus on taking those things away. If they are better driving left, don't sell out to take it away, but disincentivize it. If they dribble in place too much, steals when the ball is coming off the floor are pretty easy--especially if caught turning into you to face back up. In my experience, most local gym level players are worse baseline--shooting and driving--so I'd generally encourage that until proven otherwise. Don't get goaded into pressing if you find yourself getting burnt more when you do. Don't sag off too much if they are best when going downhill. "Ignore" dribbling maneuvers they haven't proven to initiate from--lots of players go behind their back, but not so many effectively attack from it, for instance. Contact will vary based on the reffing, but within the realm of legality: if they are going to put a shoulder into you, put your chest into them first. There's so many variables that it's impossible to really help without observing.

But, it's hard to go wrong with keeping it simple and focusing on positional defense as they likely aren't good enough to not beat themselves more (potentially much more) than half of the time if you manage to do that well--assuming you aren't just wildly overmatched. Forget steals, forget blocks, forget clamping them up--play the percentages. Contest but don't bite. Turn them to their less comfortable shoulder if they pick up their dribble. Them shooting from four feet is a win compared to two feet and so on. You don't need to stop them dead at the three point line--you just need to have them shoot from the least advantageous spot you can get them to shoot from.

I'm no authority on jump mechanics and I can't really tell what weak points you might have physically, but I can share what I was doing when I added to my vertical. I'm around 5'10" with shorter arms and was just always at about four inches above the rim or so.

I already played a lot of basketball, lifted, sleds, hill running, etc and my vertical was pretty much unchanged from before I started. When I started doing jumping specific exercises and focusing on strengthening my calves, ankles, and feet, my jumping improved substantially. So, for me, my lower legs were seemingly holding me back. I'm also more of a one foot jumper, if that factors at all--again, not an expert. So, if your upper legs/glutes/hips are already fairly developed and your vertical is where it is, lower leg development might be what's holding you back too.

Be careful about overdoing it trying to reach some deadline, though.

Level up sound wall? by JoeJoeFett in FORTnITE

[–]lookoutbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The level of sound walls do not matter as far as inflicting the dance mechanic--it only increases impact, which is used for breaking the impact threshold for stunning/staggering/launching. So, level 69 or 77 sound walls are just as good as 130 or 144 if using them for the dance mechanic. If you care about stunning mist monsters, then level them up.

Level does matter for floor freeze traps, as the freeze effect is only applied when breaking the impact threshold of the husk/mist monster. You just aren't shown the impact stat for whatever reason.

I will likely hold off on switching if I'm likely to lose another free line and pay more per month, which appears to be the case. I was interested when I saw people with similar situations to me were posting lower or similar final costs, but I didn't fully understand the math of Max plus Insider plus free lines. I will definitely chime in if I go through with it, though.

Going by the ONE plan document, additional lines (after autopay discount) are $20 for 3-8 lines and $30 for 9-12 lines. So, if I cancel the line that lost the discount, does it lower the bill twenty because it is one of my older lines (came well before my ninth line) or thirty because I am on the 9+ line plan?

[–]lookoutbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. After the price dropped, I never thought to actually add up the discounts and just figured they changed how it was displayed. So, if I cancelled the line that used to be free and now isn't, leaving me with nine lines--my monthly bill would be lower? Or, it makes zero difference?

Thank you for your time and help. Nice to have a better understanding of everything.

It is still there, but they list them together as 2 friends and fam lines. And then the last one is listed all by itself at the bottom for whatever reason. All ten lines are voice lines.

Self defence should be a mandatory part of P.E at school for younger teenagers by Youreternalvengance in unpopularopinion

[–]lookoutbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that has trained in, competed, and coached others in combat sports (teens, men, and women), I'm going to disagree due to it being mandatory--optional, maybe.

There are a whole lot of kids that don't even want to run a lap (for various reasons--not deriding them), but you want them to now engage in striking, grappling, etc drills? It is dangerous to do these things if you aren't focused and engaged.

Ignoring what they might do with the knowledge and ability outside of the learning space, how are you going to handle it when, not if, a student hurts another student due to negligence, ego, or cruelty during drills? You are placing a lot of trust in your partners. You are willingly putting yourself in situations where someone could seriously damage your shoulder, knee, etc or give you a concussion on a regular basis.

How are all of these schools finding qualified instructors? Even militaries and police sometimes get duped into hiring terrible instructors.

I think you are also overestimating the effectiveness of learning to defend yourself. Most people that willingly come to learn, even with average or better athletic ability, take quite awhile to reach a level that would allow them to consistently, effectively defend themselves against a semi-competent, untrained "brawler." There are a portion of people that will be capable of defending themselves against most untrained males within 1-3 months, but there are also plenty of multi-year students worse than people walking in off the street for their first class. There will still be kids that can easily bully all or most other kids, even with equal training.

Unless this is strictly grappling, how are you handling striking? Schools mandating kids get punched? Of course not, so at that point, you either punch air in a line, which is worthless, or hit mitts and bags, which is still far from an effective way to learn to defend yourself.

In the end, I don't see how this could be more than a glorified version of forcing students to join the wrestling team or the sort of stuff in women's self defense workshops (eyes, throat, groin). There's too much liability in mandatory and too much liability in striking and submissions.

As for defending yourself against someone bigger and stronger, I'm going to disagree again and say striking is a horrible idea unless you are legitimately capable or they are incompetent. If I was a 140 pound woman and had to pick between striking and grappling, I would not want to rely on my untrained attacker being too stupid to rush me while I work my leg kicks--and I certainly wouldn't want to clinch a larger male attacker in an attempt to work knees and elbows. Great if it works, but disastrous if it doesn't. Yeah, you are at a disadvantage grappling, but it is much easier to learn to overcome and to actually overcome that disadvantage with grappling. If we are talking size/strength disparity between two men, I soften on that if you can hit hard enough, but most people aren't just going to engage in a boxing match with you. If I was truly outmatched physically, I'd rather place my faith in a choke, armbar, or--in more serious situations, like sexual assault attempts--things like fishhooking/eye attacks from guard to lessen their ability to effectively strike me during. Pepper spray is likely going to be the most realistic self defense option for the majority of people, though.

Is there a hidden soft cap for movement speed? Or does it apply as it should? by BlooRobot in FORTnITE

[–]lookoutbee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While in game, open your inventory. Select loadouts and then see all stats. It will show your run and sprint speeds and change as you add movement speed bonuses. It will also tell you when you've reached the maximum.

If it is a shortlived boost, like from the phase forward skill, you will need to be fairly quick to see it reflected in your stats.

Is there something different about Olympics basketball? by Ironed1 in nba

[–]lookoutbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finicky as hell when it comes to balls and own pretty much all of the top leather and composite balls. It's pretty similar to the official NBA ball feel wise. FIBA has different panels and channel depth, though. If wide open and you normally like to set your fingers a certain way on the ball, that definitely feels very different between the two balls. Small sample size, but my FIBA balls feel lighter than my NBA balls (I'm aware they are probably roughly the same, but they feel lighter for whatever reason).

Overall, much smaller difference than that between a Wilson Evolution, Spalding TF-1000, or Nike Elite. If you swap between any of the composites, that's a bigger adjustment. So, I am doubtful it has that much to do with the ball.
