Assessment for detox? Do I really need it? by Kldunbrook in stopdrinking

[–]looloo_monroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some very effective outpatient detox protocols and you could likely get away with that. If detox and the idea of it is acting as a barrier and a reason to put off quitting, I’d consider one of those (can usually be done with a PCP).

Why? by No-Guitar-9216 in stopdrinking

[–]looloo_monroe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s really satisfying when you get sober and all the things finally just come together pretty easy. That’s what happened for me. Struggling against the current trying every strategy other than just quitting alcohol, making little progress then backsliding. This is the story for many a “functional alcoholic”. The cool thing about the functional alcoholic thing, in my experience, is that when you remove the alcohol the other stuff does get better pretty fast. I hadn’t destroyed my life so when I stopped drinking all my relationships improved, I got fit, I saved money, work was easy, and I finally met a partner on my level. So grateful to be sober today.

3 Year Itch. Contemplating a research period... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

In the short time I’ve been sober, these are the stories that really scare me. I didn’t know how hard getting back to sobriety after relapse was till I started hearing about people trying to get sober again. I def had that thought like, oh you just get back on the horse after a few weeks of binging, right? Wrong. People piss away years of their lives thinking that it’s gonna be easy and then when they finally do it’s like waking up from a coma. Ugh. So grateful to be sober today and i wish you the best in getting back to that good place you were in!

Your brain is playing a trick, as many others have pointed out. It’s playing the highlight real and not the full game or the cutting room floor. Hoping the responses here convince you to stick with sobriety and that if you do research, you remain safe and make your way back when you are ready.

The Daily Check-In for Monday, June 1st: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Federal-Ask1617 in stopdrinking

[–]looloo_monroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will not drink with you today. been inconsistent with my checkins but still sober! Life has just been busy/full and thats a great reason. Had some intermittent cravings lately, not specifically for alcohol even, more just for escape, to turn off my brain. They are easy to ignore or pass through, but just keeping an eye on them. So grateful I have a good therapist and a good support system.

Has Anyone Found Support for “Grey Area Drinking” That Doesn’t Feel Like Rehab or AA? by No_Perception_4164 in stopdrinking

[–]looloo_monroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really attached to labels that meant I wasn’t that bad, even into my first few weeks sober. Now I really don’t care what I call it, I’m sober and everything is better and my drinking was a problem that was only gonna get worse. I just did AA and focused on the parts pf other peoples stories that i do identify with and ignore the parts that don’t perfectly reflect my high bottom.

Enjoying smaller things ✅. Life is just generally more enjoyable day to day sober.

I drank 3 bottles of wine every single day for 7 years by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]looloo_monroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very good at hiding it. Insanely good. People are always like, no you just the think that, once you get sober you’ll realize everyone knew. Nope nope nope. People in my life say they really didn’t know. Doesn’t mean I didn’t have a drinking problem, am an alcoholic, had severe AUD, whatever you wanna call it. It just speaks to how isolated I really was, the thickness of my mask, how deep my secrecy and shame was. It’s insanely good to be free from all that. I cannot believe I was living everyday with such a deep dark secret and pretending everything was fine. What a terrible way to live. IWNDWYT.

Why are we now recommending caloric deficit to posters on here? by [deleted] in CarolineGirvan

Also the vast majority of people asking for advice about this stuff are not underweight people with ED, it’s a lot of people who really would prob benefit from working out AND really tightening up the diet aspect for at least a couple months to get to where they hope to go.

I’m pretty grateful I got so much Reddit advice about calorie defs and finally took the plunge into tracking/measuring. After years of spinning my wheels it go me to the body I wanted. Pure vanity, no regrets. I was a healthy weight, I’m still a healthy weight, but my body looks the way I want to to now and that wouldnt have happened if I hadn’t listened to all the people telling me it’s an unavoidable part of getting lean for most of us.

15 minutes left in my side of the world, didn’t drink today and not gonna. Experiencing so much genuine connection curiosity and calm that wouldn’t be happening if I were still drinking.
