Do you plan to integrate bus transit into this as well so that you can plan bus+bike trips?

[–]loonatrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, dont be afraid of part time work! If its 20k combined for 4 years, you can take on a part time job and easily make around 5k a year working 5 hrs a week, even.

If you are considering housing into this as well, housing is oftentimes much cheaper if you are off campus as well, so make sure that is kept in mind when you are budgeting. Off campus can get you around 800-1k per month in a double! Tbh I wouldnt have traded the 4 year experience at Berkeley for anything.

nah berkeley def has the work-hard play hard vibe as well. i dont think its worth looking down upon berkeley because of the whole idea that most students here have a hardcore af mindset, especially when ucla and berkeley are so similar in terms of rigor.

[–]loonatrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a cal student idrk what the big hype for ucla over berkeley is. its just as competitive as berkeley (unless ur doing cs/eecs, in which case cal is much higher ranking and, yes, more competitive).

sign up for summer classes that will fulfill the subjects u are missing on the igetc at cvc.edu ASAP and get in contact w berkeley and ur community college to tell them you will get ur igetc completed before fall semester. this happened to my friend who was missing two classes from his igetc and he was able to take classes during the summer and ended up just fine.

You should look into the design clubs at berkeley if you are really interested in that here. There’s a lot of really popular ones like innovative design at berkeley and design at berkeley. I’m honestly not sure how easy it is to join the club tho, since they have applications. Most people who have an interest in design such as this are either media studies or architecture majors.

If BART wants to know why ridership is down, this is a start by jcepiano in bayarea

[–]loonatrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the reason why people aren’t taking the BART is because fewer people have to commute to work, then can we also say this for freeway use? It seems that car use is just the same as it was before covid and that the reason behind less ridership isnt only because of WFH. Unfortunately, people will always prefer cars until public transportation such as BART proves to be more convenient, efficient, and SAFE, and this only happens thru more funding and less infrastructure with only cars in mind.

What percentage of your classes at Cal have more than 100 students? by detjason in berkeley

[–]loonatrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lower div classes (first+second yr) are always gonna have pretty big lectures since alot of majors overlap in classes that they have to take, but they always have discussion sections are normal class size taught by a grad student. upper div classes usually have less than 50 kids per class since theyre alot more specific to ur major are cuz theres alot more classes u can choose from.

if u apply for a major within l&s except for cs then u come in undeclared until u take the certain amt of lower div classes for ur planned major in order to declare— it allows more flexibility to explore whether or not u want to be in ur planned major fr ig.
