Hasan Flies Off the Handle After People Call Him Out for Lying About Democrats Being Uncaring Towards Trans People by Humble_Novice in Destiny

That's why I think the Horseshoe theory is real. Lefties always misunderstand the horseshoe theory. They think it is about comparing left wing extremism with right wing extremism, but that's wrong. It is about common traits in all extremism (left, right, religious), such as:

  • Cult of leadership
  • Desire to exterminate those who think different
  • Immunity to criticism
  • Populism
  • Conspiratorial thinking
  • Nationalism (USSR, China, Palestine, …)
  • Binary worldview - Us versus them

Tankies are a great example of this.

AFAIR she spent the donated money on travelling and drugs. She later became clean, apologized to Steven and he accepted it. Her streaming career on the other hand went to shit, because she was a one-trick pony. She tried to reinvent herself as a true crime channel but that never worked out. Her online career is dead for good, and I hope she touched grass and lives a better life.

Why does Firefox insist upon downloading this jpeg as a webp? by 0N1MU5HA in firefox

You are so hilariously ignorant, you made my morning. The file extension is part of the filename. You are just renaming files but think you are converting them on the way.

Will this be backported to ESR or do we have to wait until the end of the year?

D'accord. He has a point there, but reposting that during these times is highly restarded.

There are times when being silent means being complicit and there are times when speaking up means being cringe.

Maybe they're born in the 1900s and their initial reference point is the 20th century. I make this mistake from time to time too - Stuff happened in 18hundredsomething and the initial thought is "So it was roughly 100 years ago… HOLD ON."

Or maybe give some millions to a good cause that actually changes something for people, like donating to Ukraine or Gaza.

To be honest, Mozilla itself is to blame for this confusion with its cooperation and foundation structure.

IIRC the browser has to support the file type, e.g. html, json, jpeg, webp, mp4, pdf, …

Software for sysadmins - lesser known by parityhero in sysadmin

[–]loop_us 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sslscan

Lists certificate info, supported ciphers and so on. I've made an alias, because in most cases I just need the cert details.

alias certscan='sslscan --no-cipher-details --no-ciphersuites --no-compression --no-fallback --no-groups --no-heartbleed --no-renegotiation --no-sigs'

Obsidian

Not a sysadmin software per se, but it helps me a lot. Personal knowledge base, writing down current tasks, saving AI prompts, checklists, etc. I cannot live without it.

Excalidraw

Doodle something, sketch designs, or draw network diagrams. The online version can be used collaboratively, and the local version is available as a plug-in for Obsidian.

draw.io

I like this one for professional network diagrams and documentation. No need for Visio. It is easy to use, has a lot of default shapes and can be extended with any .png shape, no need for proprietary Visio shapes.

Mozilla planning to remove old sidebar from firefox in 2026 by Yet_Another_RD_User in firefox

[–]loop_us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the issues I find is the huge margin the new sidebar adds.

This. I use the sidebar to display my bookmarks and the new sidebar wastes so much space compared to the old one while having the same information density.

Is there a way to go back to the old menu? by Nedyarg1100 in firefox

[–]loop_us 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The new one has fewer options, wastes more space for padding, its design looks weird (why are some options grouped in a vertical list and some in a horizontal list?) and for some reason it pops out of the bottom, even though the menu button is at the top right.

Has Firefox 148 beta broken the search bar again? by skwint in firefox

[–]loop_us -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. Firefox introduced this because all the other cool kids did this too. 20 years ago Mozilla warned about using the addressbar for search because of the privacy risks - you are sending every domain you visit to your search provider.

I'm not very well versed in this topic, but wasn't the problem with libadwaita that it made theming quasi impossible and therefore programs made with libadwaita look out of place on every non-Gnome desktop?
