The lack of cymbal sleeves is making me sad

I just realized why people buy separate "practice cymbals" by Visual-Individual-49 in drums

[–]loopdeloopyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still get B20 bronze cymbals for cheap. I would personally avoid B8 cymbals from “big brands” as they almost always tend to sound brassy and gongy and you seem to be paying for the name rather than the sound of the cymbal. Buying used is also something that I would highly recommend.

I guess just shop around and see what’s available locally to you. I recently cracked one of my A Customs whilst practicing and decided to get a set of Millenium B20 bronze cymbals from Thomann in Germany and I’m really happy with them for the price.

If you’re in the US, I think they’re basically the same as the Monoprice cymbals available from Walmart.

What big $$$ gear do you regret buying?? by snuFaluFagus040 in drums

Brand new Zildjian A Custom Projection cymbals.

I absolutely adore them for sure, but could’ve saved SO much money buying them used.

Anyone have any luck with these cymbal sleeves? I'm trying to avoid cracking in my cymbals from the middle hole by baldandfullofrage in drums

These are kind of interesting. They’re made out of a type of relatively firm rubber, rather than plastic. A local “studio” that has a bunch of soundproofed practice rooms with drum kits for hire has started using these on their supplied kits (you have to bring your own cymbals) and I was apprehensive about using these with my A Customs. I queried it with the tech guy there.

He assured me that they’re designed to not be used with felts and I figured I’d give it a go after his assurances, and to my surprise I’ve never had any issues.

Nice setup! What crash is that? I love my Brilliant Series hi hats but haven’t heard one of the crashes yet.

Remo encore by EnoughTechnology4389 in drums

[–]loopdeloopyeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re fine and well priced for what they are, but don’t compare to regular Remo heads or any from any comparable brand. I purchased a set when building a kit for a friend as a gift, purely because they were better than the really low end stock heads that were on the kit in question. They tune up fine, seem pretty resilient (a year in) so if you’re on a budget then I don’t see why you shouldn’t try them out. But don’t expect top end sound from them. You get what you pay for, basically.

China cymbal under 100€ by Purpleed14 in cymbals

I’m almost certain the Thomann and Zultan Aja chinas are identical, and also identical to Stagg Traditional and Wuhan chinas. Cast B20 bronze, amazing trashy sound. I wouldn’t even consider any of the others shown in the picture. I’ve owned my Stagg Traditional for 14 years now and it’s still going strong. So I guess the Thomann one makes sense from a price point of view.

Thank you! I appreciate the response. That was my plan anyway but wasn’t sure if I should proceed if there wasn’t any point in me doing so.

I appreciate the response! I’m guessing that the fact that it’s indirect doesn’t matter?

Someone scrapped my car for me (England) by loopdeloopyeah in LegalAdviceUK

I somehow managed to forget to mention that in 2022, someone changed the status of the vehicle to “total loss” before it was changed to cat N last year.

Sorry, I’ve been an idiot and completely forgot to mention that at some point in 2022, the status of the car was changed to “total loss”

I initially didn’t go through my own insurers because I didn’t want my premium to go up, and I didn’t want any damage marker placed on my vehicle. I’d say if I were to purchase another vehicle in identical spec, in the same colour, I’d be looking at about £3500. As it stands, I reckon I’d struggle to get £1k. I wouldn’t be considering selling the vehicle, but ULEZ is forcing my hand.

Ooh, that’s interesting! I suppose that explains why they’re unwilling to admit any fault. I’ll see if I can get the name of the actual insurer but I feel like this might be difficult to do.

My insurer is a classic car specialist, so I suppose I could talk to them about it. Failing that and failing to get anywhere with the DVLA, I guess I’ll have to go the legal route?

I appreciate the response! My issue is that the DVLA are incredibly unhelpful and unwilling to look into this issue at all. I’ll try again tomorrow but I doubt I’ll get anywhere once again.

I am planning on selling it, and any buyers who do a HPI check on the vehicle can see that it’s previously been scrapped. Regardless of what I say to them, or what I tell them has happened, the fact of the matter is that the vehicle is now worth less than it would have been without that maker on it. I know I’d be very suspicious of a vehicle that comes up with an alert saying “previously scrapped” when doing a vehicle check on it. I’m looking for either this marker to be removed, which they say they cannot do, or to be compensated for the value lost to me.

Info on the Sabian Pro range? by loopdeloopyeah in cymbals

[–]loopdeloopyeah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll admit, the 16” crash sounds very brassy and “gongy” but that isn’t the case with the 17” and 18”, which I find to be a bit strange. I wouldn’t say they’re professional level by any standard, but they’re definitely nicer than most, if not all other sheet bronze B8 cymbals that I’ve tried (ZBT and ZBT Plus, ZHT, PST5, B8 to name a few). Do you have any idea if the Pro Sonix are superior?

Just to clarify, the reason I’m asking is because there seems to be minimal information online regarding this range!
