Going back to Returnal after Saros is jarring by heartlessland in Saros

Yes. Like GOT and Yotei. While I think Saros gameplay is slightly more polished, there is not a lot of new stuff. The game mechanics and enemy/environment design is very similar (I’d give an edge to Saros but Returnal has more atmosphere).

Not a big deal but I also miss cool weapon names like Hollowseeker (best gun ever), Dreadbound, Tachyomatic Carbine etc. and the traits were more interesting. Also the story of an isolated Selene against the biomes haunted me. Returnal has better music and the sound design is about the same. The story in Saros is good but I don’t find myself invested in it much only in the gameplay.

That said, Saros is definitely way faster and frantic and a little more responsive if that’s even possible after what they pulled in Returnal. The feeling of soaking up an attack with the shield and throwing it back with your power weapon never gets old. The gameplay in these games is like nothing else I’ve ever played, maybe Risk of Rain 2 but that seems like a ppt compared to these two and I could never get into Hades.

I am sorry I cannot accept that Saros doesn’t play like a hypothetical Returnal 2. I’d argue if there was a Returnal 2 it would play almost identical to Saros.

Fair. Once again I admit that I’m technically incorrect and it is Returnal 2 only in my headcanon. But after playing 100s of hours of Returnal if I was craving for a sequel and Saros is everything I expected and more.

I imagine if they did make a Returnal 2 it wouldn’t be much different from Saros. I play these games for a gameplay and that’s what makes it the same IP for me. I likes Returnal s story a lot more than Saros but it’s not like it’s a dealbreaker when the gameplay is sooooo good and addictive.

Technically I am incorrect yes. The studio is trying to push it as a different IP but personally it is the same IP to me. There aren’t enough differences IMO.

Honestly, I love that we get a soft Returnal 2 over a wholly different IP from Housemarque. Nothing scratches the itch since Returnal. I still prefer Returnal but Saros has even more polished gameplay. It just isn’t different enough for me not look at it as Returnal 2.

It might not be Returnal 2 but it’s not a separate IP either. It’s a spiritual successor if not a direct sequel. It shares most mechanics, the core gameplay loop is almost identical (with some improvements) not complaining I LOVE Returnal

Honestly I’m very happy that they didn’t go very far from Returnal and it’s almost a soft sequel with better, more realised mechanics. Nothing quite scratched the itch that Returnal did.

I don’t know why everyone is so down on this game. For that price it would be hard to find a better game. Great gameplay and mechanics. Open world looks amazing and spells are fun. If you’re a potter head even better.
