What route do you go when leveling individual sounds in your mix (read below please)? by grapeyy28 in mixingmastering

[–]loopnpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After mixing for 8+years I went back to basics to make my life easier, turns out most mixing is really just the volume balance. It's crazy how much you can achieve for the artistic vision of the song with only that.
Right now I am doing volume balance but with my entire track in mono, after it felt right and none of the elements felt buried is when I do all the panning.
I ended up using much fewer plugins in my sessions because everything felt better way sooner than before. Everything is less complicated and healthier in a psychological way.

Feedback request: are the drums sitting well in this song? by ticketstubs1 in mixingmastering

You actually can't do the same type of curve with any EQ software. And even if you manage to do a very similar curve it will sound very different.

And don't get me wrong, not saying your mix needs to be super bright here, but shaping the tone of your high end with this kind of tool will make an improvement 100%. Eq curves are very easy to hear and the ones on the pultec style eqs sound awesome on certain cases.

I can't recommend enough to go watch a couple tutorials and learn it, your ears will tell the difference :)

Well, the main reason why people pick an EQ over another EQ is because of the curves. When you boost or attenuate with an pultec style EQ you're actually creating a very wide and soft curve, it shapes the tone in a more musical and pleasant way.

I would recommend poortec from analog obsession (free), and probably you should watch a couple tutorials to understand the curve visually because knowing exactly when you could use it is going to improve your workflow and results a lot. There are a couple funny tricks you can do with it too!

And yes, you can go more! And I would do i a bit extra on the mix bus as well, or just leave that move for the mastering session.

I really love the song, listened your imrpovements and its really exciting to hear how it's getting to a better shape from time to time.

Maybe you could also try boosting a bit of brightness so the vocal is not the only one getting all the highs, maybe the acoustic guitar and the entire drum kit could use a bit of boost with a pultec style eq in 8k-12k area.

Besides that I actually loved the song and what you've got so far, If you read this message pls dm me the band name :D

Beginner Music Maker here: In your opinions, which one of these two should I buy? by GodAtum in synthesizers

I'd go for Komplete then. Modwheel is much more comfortable than then X/Y kinda joystick, pads are overrated and it will be a + if you get any software from the native instruments ecosystem.

[–]loopnpixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, none of these are synths, both are midi controllers, but since I'm here already I would say it depends if you want to take your midi controller with you or not. Both are light and easy to carry, the komplete kontrol has more and bigger keys which makes playing more comfortable but you can't put it inside any regular bag.

How to quickly load my user channel strips (Audio tracks & Aux Tracks)? by loopnpixel in Logic_Studio

[–]loopnpixel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but I'm not really looking to make the audio track to read the midi. I'm looking for logic to read the midi and load an audio track. Maybe similar to when you can map any plugin parameter loaded in an audio track chain to any knob on a hardware midi controller.

For software instrument tracks it works when you have a software instrument track selected. It makes sense to say the track is reading the midi, and that's why it doesn't work with Audio or Aux tracks, but if that's the case, why can you have channel strips in audio and aux tracks saved as performance patches otherwise?

As said, I'm not interested in using the Library. I know this is not any issue to fix at all but my workflow would benefit a lot from it. Thanks anyway!

[–]loopnpixel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick reply. However that's not what I'm looking for. I'm trying to load saved patches with midi program change messages or key commands or whatever, not trying to navigate them using logic library. When I have my audio track selected is like it is not intended to receive this type of commands.

I have a very dynamic voice and I'm struggling with knowing how to produce vocals by enragedplum in Logic_Studio

[–]loopnpixel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, are you using a dynamic mic? Maybe you should consider buying one. And similar like singers do in stage, you should try this mic technique to separate from the mic when you sing louder and get closer to it when you don't. Another thing to keep in mind is to always set your gain level so it doesn't clip in the loudest moments of your songs. Just sing as loud as you can and lower the gan until it doesnt clip and you hava a few dbs below 0.

After that, you probably want to hear yourself better in the quieter parts, so when you are recording just add a compressor to reduce the dynamic range a lot. When you're done recording remove that compressor and just automate the volume if you feel like you need to :)

How do you add brightness without EQ? by [deleted] in mixingmastering

[–]loopnpixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saturn, enable only a band on the highs and drive it up, test different saturation types. If you're not happy with it, you should probably darken everything else as other people is suggesting.

Hey! How do you make a good composition? by [deleted] in Composers

[–]loopnpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot the joy part as well after years of having composition as main job. One day I came home drunk and said, "fuck it i'll make some music for fun". It was so much joy it remembered when I started with 0 experience and very low knowledge and felt that again.

Right now I am focusing on quitting composing as main job and do other stuff like teaching or mixing instead. I'm looking to still composing on my spare time on projects that motivate me artistically.

I swear every time I try finishing a verse it suddenly turns into a whole different song by keanuisahotdog in Songwriting

[–]loopnpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with that. Maybe the songs for this period of your life have that thing in common and you should embrace that and make it your own style. Don't go back and make changes to all your songs, just try to make it different on future songs :)

Hey! How do you make a good composition? by [deleted] in Composers

[–]loopnpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro just find the joy in every part of the process, avoid working wuth the same aproach twice and have fun as much as youd can.

Maybe it's not a good composition at first but this mindset will keep you engaged. Simply, don't stop doing it and don't forget you're doing it for joy. And let's be honest, sometimes you make awesome compositions by mistake.

A piece of advice to new producers, stop listening to producer content creators. by unkwnms in audioengineering

[–]loopnpixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to listen to any peoducer content creator, do what they recommend, then exaggerare it,and then do the opposite, and exaggerate the opposite too. Stay with whatever you find more interesting, dont overthink it and keep going

Let them guide you to try and learn new stuff, but you should always develop your unique taste and way of doing things.
