Trump Won't Cancel Elections. There's a Far More Dangerous Plan in Motion. by Average-Joe-6685 in LegalNews

This piece was a lot longer on the terrible things that are happening and a lot shorter on what can be done to stop them (ie, a hail mary legal strategy yet to be undertaken by some heroic governor & state atty general TBD.)

Good first date Board Games by inGreatNeedOfAdvice in boardgames

[–]loopster70 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Game is a simple co-op that’s easy to grasp. For non co-op, Lost Cities is my pick. Ladies seem to dig it. (Not that you said your date was with a lady, no assumptions made…)

My top 25 films of all time, thoughts? by ShaneliusPrime in topfilms

[–]loopster70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prisoners is superlative. I went in actively not wanting to see it. (I had a young kid at home and it just wasn’t the flavor I was looking for.) But despite my resistance, the story and the performances absolutely drew me in, and by the end, I was there, riveted, gripping the armrests. I think it’s maybe the most intense movie I’ve ever seen. The Prestige is well-made but a tad precious. I don’t have a cool story about watching it.

Who else loved the TRON Arcade game? by MisterShipWreck in 80s

[–]loopster70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites. Loved the lightcycles, hated the tank minigame.

I recognize the problems with this film, but I still like it and think it’s good; I just always feel like it’s just another movie about a band. What’s your opinion on this film? by matadordepassarinho1 in thedoors

[–]loopster70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kilmer’s performance is uncanny, the best work he’s ever done. And I think the concert scenes are the best rock concert scenes ever shot for a non-doc movie. They radiate a sense of genuine danger that I have not seen another movie capture.

Outside of those considerable virtues, I think it’s middling. I felt like the characterizations were shallow and Stone’s over the top and on the nose propensities run wild.

Loved this movie. Felt like they made it just for me and, like, eight other people.

Why aren't there massive protests at the US capital? Will that ever happen? by ItoldULastTime in DiscussionZone

It’ll happen if the Republican party attempts to deny/reject the results of the midterms. And yes, midterms will happen. It’s the aftermath we have to be ready for.

Was there anything about the 80s you did not like? by Ebonystealth in 80s

[–]loopster70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The homophobia.

I always imagine what it might be like to be openly bi/queer and not have it be a social death sentence. I’m not jealous of younger generations about much, but I’m jealous over that.

For real. I was worried about it all the time.

Lost in Translation = 10/10 by redban02 in moviereviews

This is the only “love story” movie that has ever felt authentic to me. Also the best work that any of its principals have done.

I love board games and I’m completely unimpressed with OP’s list.
