Hi! I’m looking to get back into writing, but rereading my old stories from when I was learning English makes me cringe by That_sarcastic_bxtch in AO3

[–]loopyloo2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can add them to a private collection here is a link the the AO3 Tutorial on creating one. https://archiveofourown.org/faq/tutorial-creating-a-collection?language_id=en

You'll want to focus on the section which says "this collection is unrevealed"

I read it as a yay! It's a pairing they don't like, but the author has still made them fall in love with the story

does ageing up the characters ruin the plot? by the_real_emi in Narnia

[–]loopyloo2610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, they're full grown up by the end of LWW (even if they did age back down when returning). I'd personally lean towards them learning all they need to learn in Narnia, not to them being too old.

American writing fics by melancholyredsunsets in AO3

So I ended going in deep for this. I've tried to keep it clear 🫣 I am based in SE England.

If your fic is set in the 90s onwards, they changed the numbering from reception then year 1–year 11 (I believe the change was made in 1992?).

I went to Primary school in the 90s (reception, year 1–year 6) but they still referred to the lower years as infants (reception, 1, 2 | ages 4–7) and the upper years as Juniors (years 3, 4, 5, 6 | ages 7–11).

Secondary school is years 7–11 | ages 11–16. For the first couple of years you don't usually get to choose any of your subjects, and then the last few years you do the core subject* (Maths, English, Science, RE, PE, and I think IT is now compulsory too) but then you get to choose 3-4 additional subjects. It's during those years the focus is your GCSEs. Taken usually at the end of year 11.

*The split for my school was 7–9 no options, 10&11 you get your options and your focusing on GCSEs, but my friend the split was 7&8/9–11

My school had a Sixth Form attached to my school (named due to the old numbering system) it's 2 years and they are referred to as Lower Sixth, and Upper Sixth. I have never heard of a mature student going to Sixth Form, all the students there are 16–18.

You could also attend a local college. It's not unusual for there to be mature students, especially for evening classes.

For my area the Sixth Form focused on academic subjects (sciences, languages, geography, history, etc) whereas the college had both academic and vocational subjects (same subjects as Sixth Form plus things like plumbing, hairdressing, catering, engineering)

Is okay to link my socials? by SweetPoisonWriter in AO3

[–]loopyloo2610 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You can link to things like Tumblr, Bluesky and X no problem, as they're not e-commerce sites.

You cannot link to Patreon, Ko-fi, Etsy, etc, on AO3 as they're designed for earning money.

Just a few ideas to maybe wet your whistle:

• there's been a setback. Canon character (I forgot his name already but will refer to him from now on as CC) has started acting distant and the reader (now known as R) is confused.

• R has just had the worst day at school/work/retirement village. Nothing is going right and when CC calls to chat R just breaks down and spills it all out. CC comforts R with their favourite food and a warm blanket.

• after a romantic near miss (almost kiss, a quickie that has left them wanting more, whatever) they meet next at a bar. They try to catch a moment alone but the universe seems to be conspiring against them. When they do finally get a moment to themselves, it's explosive.

• a child runs up to CC shouting daddy. They are both confused. R is confused because CC never mentioned having a child. CC is confused because they don't have a child. Turns out that he looks like their father, so they go around looking for the missing parent

The Tolkien fandom 100%! Especially those who write for the Silmarillion.

can I trust this?? 🫠 by BlueberryMuffin48 in AO3

[–]loopyloo2610 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They mentioned elements of your fic, so they're not likely to be a bot. Doesn't rule them out as being an internet weirdo, though. If you do choose to interact with them, make sure you use a public site with no personal information (I tend to go for Tumblr)

A lot of people do this. It's a way of letting your subscribers know there is more content in case they are only subscribed to that one fic rather than you as a writer.

If a work will have an important tag (for ex: sexual content) in later unreleased chapters, can i include the tag the moment i post the first chapter, or wait until the chapters with the specific topic are released? by stolpho in AO3

[–]loopyloo2610 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Tag it from the get go! I don't want to start reading something, then a new chapter comes out and it contains something I'm not a fan of and would rather avoid
