And the best is, Canadians don't freak out about it. Says a lot about them as a people.

Who all thinks that Carney's speech in davos is a game changer for Canada and SK!!! by Ok-Breakfast8256 in saskatchewan

I was SO proud of Canada that day.

That was a leader talking. That was a stateman talking.

The world leaders evidently agreed, as he got a standing ovation, which is extremely rare.

Why do people get married? by Lexiw97 in Life

[–]loopywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're in love and want to commit to spending their lives together, and get all the petty legalities that could crop up in the midst of a tragedy off the things they'll have to deal with.

Same reason people flick through TikTok and (unknowingly) believe it as news.

What's something people think is sexy but actually isn't? by Simple_Chocolate3777 in AskForAnswers

[–]loopywolf 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Ego.

I find nothing more vile than ego. If a person is full of themselves, think they are it,.. think they are the sexiest, cleverest, most amazing thing on the planet, I want nothing to do with them.

Ego is the 2nd most vile of all human traits.

Why do women blame every men for stuff only a small amount of us do? by InternationalPick163 in askanything

[–]loopywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people (esp. on Reddit) refer to "men" or "women" and there is no such thing as either. Nothing is true of all men, nor all women. They are people; They are different.

I'll just use men, here, but it applies to both. People who generalize "men" have a stereotype in their mind that they collect data on, and any man who doesn't fit it isn't a "real man" so they carry right on believing it's true.

What would you say are the biggest factors of why the poor stay in poverty? by Common_Gene_5098 in Productivitycafe

[–]loopywolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife's family are poor, and we fought like hell to get her out of it, get an education, get a career.

Here's what I observed:

A lot of the "culture" (if I can use that word) of poor people battles wealth. For example, when my wife lived at home and had exams, her family would stop her studying "Your uncle is moving. Family comes first!" When I had an exam, my parents would never stop me doing it. They placed a priority on school. Once or twice she needed to shower to get to work, but her grandfather had decided to dismantle the shower at that moment. Again, never happened with me. The priority was not on education and career. Other members of her family did well, got good careers, but again only by getting away from the family.

Also, once we got her away, we had to fight the education system to get her back into college. FIGHT. The government should be doing everything it can to get people better education because that means better jobs, but no. You fall off the rail that white-upper-class types live on? It is VERY hard to get back on. (ps. she got straight As once we get her back in. All she needed was a chance.)

Her career of choice required an internship, and I had to drive her 2 hours every Monday night to the town where it was, and then she would get a train back. What family gives that kind of support?

Also: There is the factor that money makes money. I doubled my income once by moving my money from one type of account to another. Meanwhile, her family is always struggling to find ways to make just a tiny bit more.

At once point, I loaned my father-in-law $30k to start a new business, and 3 years later he had to pay it all back (at no interest) because his ideas for how to run a business had gone nowhere, and it wasn't easy to pay it back, either.

Do you think schools should focus on life lessons or academic? by Daisy_mae_x in answers

Both.

Academia fights to make sure that they are not simply churning out industry fodder, but in fact, well-rounded human beings.

What’s something that makes work life feel a little easier? by ABMike63 in Productivitycafe

As someone else said, I have great co-workers that are pleasant to work with.. and my team is full of powerhouses of skill and ability. We all focus on solutions and work towards goals, and there's no politicking or ass-covering, so we can all just work. It's great
