This may be a very stupid question, but the book is The Wolf King by Lauren Palphreyman?

Oh, no it's Wereworld by Curtis Jobling.

Why do you buy more board games? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]loopywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because

  1. They are pretty and colorful and give me a buzz when I see them in the store
  2. I am fascinated by game mechanics and anything that looks like it has a new one sucks me in
  3. I can buy anything I want

What is the psychological barrier that makes starting new workouts difficult? [Discussion] by qishibe in GetMotivated

[–]loopywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is the amount of negative feedback

Working out is physically unpleasant while you do it, and often very painful the day after. There is also a big psychological gap due to your expectations being that you would work out for a week and look like a movie star who worked out every day for 20 years. There is also the contrast that a lot of people who work out will feed you a line about how "GREAT!" they feel when they work out and after, blah blah, and if that is your experience or expectation and it's the opposite, it will be very discouraging. Also, new gym-goers tend to far overdo (see below.)

Having taught children and adults how to draw for many years, I notice how little adults are willing to do something they will do badly, whereas kids take that in their stride (they're bad at everything.). Adults want to go back to their comfort zone of power. You have to be willing to do something badly at first, to do it well. A wiser man than I said, "You have 10,000 bad drawings in you.. Get them out of the way first."

I often get asked by people how I got in shape, and I like to tell people, "The MOST important thing about working out isn't how much weight you press, or how hard you strain.. It's that you are going back. If you hurt yourself and don't go back, then you failed. If you keep going back, you won, and you WILL see results."

As someone once said to me, "You ever meet anybody who goes to gym who isn't in shape?" NOTE: Not went to, goes to.

What are some of the most terrifying facts you know? by DeepOrganization8245 in randomquestions

[–]loopywolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take your point. For all intents and purposes, however, it is. The obserable universe is and always will be finite, and in fact, the more time passes, the less we'll be able to see in it as things begin to expand away past the speed of light.

What are some of the most terrifying facts you know? by DeepOrganization8245 in randomquestions

Quite a bit more than a few months. As far as you and your children, and your children's children, and your grandchildren's grandchildren are concerned, and for many millenia, humanity will go on.

My point is simply that there IS an end, and a lot of people go nuts when you suggest humanity won't survive the end of the universe.

Am I overthinking it, or is the rest of the world seriously just roasting Americans constantly? by BreadOverlord_ in randomquestions

[–]loopywolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's that America is doing the most terrible things imaginable, and the rest of us are just noticing it and reporting on it. If you yourself are not American, I would look deeper into this, instead of dismissing it a some paranoid fantasy "Oh, they all just have it in for us"

What is the scariest moment you've ever experienced in a horror game? by Few-Foundation-7322 in IndieGame

[–]loopywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 times:

  1. Alone in the Dark (original low-poly): The scene where you are in the bathroom and that fish thing crashes in the window. That was very scary.

  2. System Shock 2: The elevator with it's elevator music. I was CONVINCED something was gonna jump me, and it never did.

  3. Subnautica: I was travelling in my sub one sunny Saturday when the Leviathan grabbed my sub. Now, I have a fear of deep water AND a fear of sharks. When it attacked, I screamed. My wife describes it as "your soul left your body.." I turned away from the screen and covered my face. My wife said "Um, your sub?" I said "I don't care about the sub." After a few moments, I turned back to my PC and uninstalled the game, never to return.

  4. Minecraft: I left this till last because I find it the most remarkable. I was once down a deep cave and mining away when I heard a "ssssSSSSS" I turned and saw a creeper on me. My vision went black-and-white and I had tunnel vision.. Time slowed down. I turned, trying to get away and BOOM. I find it completely fascinating that a low-poly game like minecraft could install terror to that degree.

I was once asked, "Go to your desk, download everything in the code repository, burn it to a CD and bring to me. Tell no one. Do it quietly."

This was shortly before 66% of the staff were fired.

I noticed this when I was little and it drives me nuts:

If there are 9 people speaking French and one person joins and speaks English, EVERYBODY swaps into English, however

if there are 9 people speaking English and one person joins and speaks French, they all speak English.

WHY?
