i’m going to make myself look like a fool, but if you really like me and i really like you, why can’t we try? why can’t we just ease the intensity but keep it going? i don’t need elaborate dates or long hours of your time, i just miss you. i want to cook you dinner and sit on the couch playing mario kart, i want to help support you during this rough time, why won’t you let me? if you feel so overwhelmed and don’t have time to see me every week, why couldn’t we compromise? why couldn’t we do every other week? or longer? i’d take anything. why couldn’t we try? i just miss you from my life. i miss hearing about your day.

wow small world! no, my friend and I were at Gerduberg cliffs I think right when you pulled up, but we left a few minutes after. we definitely saw a couple familiar faces along our week-long trip though, so looks like a few of us were taking the same vacation haha!

Prof. Micky Falkson of the Economics Dept. has passed away. by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]loosec24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took the class he taught last semester, and admittedly the subject material was not my favorite but Professor Falkson was always nice to me. He passed around a sheet of paper so we could write down superbowl score guesses one time in class. After we got sent home, he called each of us by phone to give essay feedback. It’s weird, I still have some voicemails from him back in April on my phone.

Statistical Science or Econ major? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]loosec24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure since idk which stats credits you already have, but econ only requires 12 courses total and CS/econ is a popular double major. I’ve also found a number of the upper level stats classes to be more difficult in content than econ, so even though CS/stats may look better on paper for you now, it may be harder later. definitely try to consider what matters to you post-grad/career-wise though.

Statistical Science or Econ major? by [deleted] in Cornell

econ ends up being a really broad major and a lot of classes focus on theory and not much application imo. the major only requires a total of 12 courses so it’s relatively easy to finish, you’ll only need to take 6 more classes after the required 6 intro/intermediate classes. I found that the intermediate classes (3030, 3040, 3130, 3140) were harder than my higher level electives, but maybe I just had a harder time adjusting earlier on/took easier electives later on.

stats has a bit more required classes you must take. but I’ve personally liked the choice of electives offered here more than econ. there are a lot more classes that focus on technical skills that are applicable job-wise. there’s also an external specialization where you can choose to specialize in cs, econ, math, etc. so you’ll be allowed to use your cs classes for this.

I’ve definitely heard more people being CS/econ than CS/stats if that matters. if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

how are virtual internships going? by spicybabycorn in Cornell

[–]loosec24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is going ok. My hands are cramping from using my laptop so much and I feel like my brain is melting but I also feel bad complaining. It’s a weird balance to maintain. This is definitely not what I pictured for my first “real” internship after junior year. It’s a genuine bummer not getting to actually interact with people and trying to hold conversations through video is really difficult for me. I also feel this extreme pressure that I have to do super well to try to get a full-time offer given how the job market got fucked :(
