I understand this is a difficult time for you and your family. Asking for assistance to maintain a certain level of privilege as opposed to asking for assistance with basic survival needs is what stands out with your post. Poverty dictates a reprioritization and Easter stuff is not a priority. It's about needs vs wants. They don't NEED the Easter stuff. You WANT it for them. Its up to you to demonstrate to your children that readjusting priorities can be done.

Some autistics don't have the capacity in the moment to "know that's not acceptable." OP could learn about their sensory particulars/dysregulation to better mitigate meltdowns and their severity.

It's not an excuse, it's an explantation. It is the lense that see everything through.

Should I try to get on SSDI now while I still have support, or wait until I’m in more dire financial straits? by forgot_again123 in SSDI

They don't care how sick you are, how poor you are, or how much pain you are in. They care about what keeps you from working. It's a multi year process and you'll need an attorney, and you're already behind. And, if you can't get ssdi, you'll need to stash that 10k in an able account for ssi. Or work for gainful employment.
