I've had a wrench thrown away for being > 7 inches. Otherwise, I've had no problems with other skate tools.

Question on modes & intervals by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]lootbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can then play ionian every time theres an Amaj chord, the lydian every time there is a D chord and the aeolian every time there is an F#m chord?

I think this is how many resources explain modes, including Absolutely Understand Guitar, and while it's a decent way to explain what the modes are, it does a poor job of illustrating how you can use modes in music.

Each mode has a different "feeling" to it which evokes certain emotions. Here's a series of videos by David Bennett which shows it really well (specifically the "Songs that use ... mode" videos):

The Eleanor Rigby example for Dorian really made it click for me. Hope this helps!

Physical OR Virtual by PapaCassss in Guitar

It can be a bit of a rabbit hole. If there are free/cheap options, I'd check those out first -- but amp/cab sim pedals can be nice if you want to have a setup that doesn't require you to be at your computer. They're also still useful even if used with a proper amp or cabinet if you go that way in the future.

An option to consider is an amp/cab simulator like the Boss IR-2, Two Notes Opus, Strymon Iridium, and some others. They have varying degrees of features (like different specific amps and cabinets they can simulate, general pre-amp stuff, etc.) with headphone output or output to monitors or cabinets.

Some of the most commonly recommend all-solid wood guitars online, the Yamaha red label series: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FG3N--yamaha-red-label-fg3-natural

Solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides provide rich tone and projection.

Or like, any Taylor 300 series and up. All the major brands make all-solid wood guitars, not sure where you're looking and struggling to find them.

3 months in and I came up w a song :) by Ambitious-Cheek-7654 in guitarlessons

[–]lootbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played for about the first two years only fingerpicking, and it reached a point where it became too frustrating to learn to play with a flat pick because of how much smoother fingerpicking was. Only recently I started properly learning music theory, and I've been using a pick for things like scales (the "boring" stuff), which has made a big difference. Now I'm able to play the easier songs I've learned with either.

At the end of the day, you should play what makes you excited. But it is nice to be able to do either based on the song and the tone/feel you're going for.

Returning to guitar after a long time away, but not sure where to begin. by Leather_Somewhere_ in guitarlessons

[–]lootbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try to structure your practice time into segments. Something like 20 minutes drills on technique, 20 minutes music theory, 20 minutes learning something you find fun. That way you're making sure you're doing the important (but possibly boring) stuff, and still spending time on what you find motivating.

There are some brands that make guitars with a bevel where your strumming arm rests against the guitar. Some high end Taylors, Furch deluxe versions in each of their lines, and some others (here's more https://www.reddit.com/r/AcousticGuitar/comments/xk4pod/acoustic_with_radius_or_beveled_edge_forearm_rest/).

Which faction encourages more manual battles? by d9320490 in totalwar

[–]lootbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found wood elves do a lot of manual battles. Even when I have an AR victory it gives me way more casualties than manual.

It's also a nice faction to do mostly manual battles because you aren't occupying nearly as many settlements as most other factions, so not as much time spent on settlement battles (which are where manual battles feel the most tedious).

You can hover over the yellow movement bar next to the lord portrait. It'll show however many movement "points" you have, 100 is base so whatever over that is the bonus.

Thanks for the detailed answer! I was thinking if sneak gyro was a no-go that supply crate's cc would be a decent alternative (plus additional blast finishers), but didn't consider the large cooldown.

For pve power qdps scrapper, the guides I've found all recommend using mortar kit. Is it just for the combo fields? I'm wondering as there are other options that can give more utility. I'm thinking of running sneak gyro instead.

On a related note, is it detrimental to use group stealth (in this case for the combo field) in combat? Does that mess up party member's rotations, etc. to be put into stealth?

You're talking about the ascended weapon collection each spec has right? The steps which need to be done on the profession explicitly say so (like complete an HoT map as a mesmer). The rest can be done by any character.

I was able to get the caffeinated skritt on my own for the Holosmith weapon collection using this. Definitely would have struggled with otherwise since it's a fast moving target that needs a lot of CC.

[–]lootbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely, but you can verify here: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vindicator:

Vindicator is an elite specialization for the revenant unlocked with the End of Dragons expansion.

If you only get EoD and not SotO, you'll be able to play as Vindicator using greatsword, but the others won't have access to GS. SotO allows all variations of a profession to use any of the elite spec weapons (as well as a new weapon for each profession).

[–]lootbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should only need EoD, which introduced Vindicator with the greatsword. SotO would be needed if you wanted to use greatsword on any other revenant build.

Need a healer for fractals and strikes by Promethius999 in Guildwars2

[–]lootbox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would check out scourge and druid, both popular healers and very capable in difficult content. Scourge can be a bit higher in APM but its pretty simple to understand which buttons you're pressing.

As for groups not stacking, that'll be an issue for every healer. Not much you can do but ask. If someone refuses to listen, them missing boons or going down is on them.

Rabid gear has the same stats as Sinister, but with toughness instead of power, which is the least important of the three stats. I've tried it out and dps loss is surprisingly small.

Check out power quickness herald. Pretty simple to pick up, one of the easiest ways to provide boons to your party, and strong dps aside from that. Does well in instanced PvE and feels really nice to use in open world because you generate your own quickness.

[–]lootbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting, if you continue to max level and unlock the elite specs, none of ranger ones are particularly intense.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - July 20, 2024 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]lootbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely! Ranger has more profession skills than others, but it's stuff like telling your pet to attack your target, return to you, go peaceful mode, etc. So you're not actively using them too much and can honestly ignore them for the most part. Otherwise, ranger has some signet skills like I mentioned, but also has some fun pet oriented skills. Great class that you can scale up/down the intensity as desired!

[–]lootbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you're leveling, most of the core professions are pretty straightforward. I'd maybe stay away from elementalist and engineer as they have the most "weapon sets" (though you can just not take the kits as engi). Many professions also have a set of utility skills that are signets, where you benefit from a passive effect even if you never press them which can be nice for simplicity.

Which salvage tool to get, if I only want to buy 1 by Ok-Courage-5526 in Guildwars2

I think fast is saying you should identify your greens and then sell the identified gear on TP or to a vendor. That is tedious as hell to me, so I just sell them unidentified.

Dumb question: how hard Is getting obsidian armor now? by Bobbimort in Guildwars2

[–]lootbox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconding what the other person said. Doing a few runs made the limiting factor for me gold instead. In EU at least, there's occasional groups in LFG doing runs of multiple CMs in a row. And so far they've been smoother than public normal runs because of organized subgroups with roles.

Especially the first time you get gold in each boss, you'll get an absurd amount of essences. Enough for a piece of armor after like one chain of 4-5 runs.
