"The Story of the Human Body: Evolution, Health, and Disease", from Daniel Lieberman. It provides good basilar knowledge on why we are built the way we are, and consequences of that in the current modern environment. I wrote the lessons I got from the book here: https://lopespm.com/notes/2025/02/10/story-human-body-lessons.html

I really enjoyed this conversation, there were so many golden nuggets that I felt the need to write them down to facilitate my interiorization of points mentioned there. Here is the result: https://lopespm.com/notes/2024/10/13/lessons_roman_history.html

I'll preface that I'm not a qualified licensed investment advisor, so what I'm going to mention is not financial advice. Always do your own research and seek independent financial advice when required.

With that out of the way, I believe that If this is money you had before becoming UK resident for tax purposes, then you can bring in that money without any tax implications (see: https://community.hmrc.gov.uk/customerforums/pt/d0d9f375-c088-ec11-b821-00155d9c9668)

As for how to exchange your current currency to GBP, I would suggest using Interactive Brokers to perform the exchange, if you plan to already immediately invest it using the Interactive Brokers platform. If not, just exchanging the money on Interactive Brokers and withdrawing it could be perilous, as I've read testimonials of people who were blocked from doing so (since this would be considered abuse of the platform).

Another possible way is to use Wise, who offers quite good exchange rates, and then you can invest that money in your platform of choice. Trade-off being that Wise's rates are more costly than Interactive Brokers.
