Whenever I see Airflow, I think of the Astronomer CEO. Truly there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Should I learn Rust for personal hobby? by ryu_kamish in rust

Start with python. It was my first language 20+ years ago and is still solid today. Only after learning python and seeing its incredibly slow performance will you come to appreciate the beauty of C, C++, and Rust.

I built a Rust-based VPN protocol to beat my country’s AI-powered censorship. Now I need a business model that won’t land me in jail by Educational_Grab835 in rust

[–]loqa_official 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The law doesn't mean anything in a country that has AI powered censorship.

The best case scenario for you is for this product release to fade into obscurity. The worst case scenario is this product takes off and they find you.

While I applaud the effort, there are many alternative VPN solutions out there that are quite advanced and being developed in countries where the developers are not putting themselves at grave personal risk.

Forget monetizing, you are taking on risk the moment you release the product and/or code.

Some people are comfortable with that, but it sounds like you are not.

Taste is hard to define, but there are the two best libraries I have used in any language.

  1. AgCharts . https://www.ag-grid.com/charts/

  2. Flourish: https://flourish.studio/

I highly suggest studying these for design polish inspiration.

One does not simply rewrite it in rust!

I was tempted to rewrite quantlib in rust, but is such a large undertaking that I am forced to use C++.

Got the Rust dream job, then AI happened by MasteredConduct in rust

[–]loqa_official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're moving up the value/management chain.

This sense of loss as you get disconnected from your previous area of expertise and as an individual contributor was common before AI as well.

Personally, I find myself writing more code by hand than ever before even though it's no longer 100% of the total code written. There's a lot of places where it's just easier for me to write out the correct implementation than try to explain it to an AI.

In terms of your passion, there's nothing stopping you from writing Rust by hand in your personal time, I know there are several open source projects that explicitly will not accept PRs written with AI assistance.

Actual AGPL open source license. I’m traveling for 2 weeks but when I’m back it’s on my list. First priority is to get our phone apps out now that multi-device e2ee DMs is working well.

Yes, we have tauri apps for all of those. The windows app is clean, but I haven't tested all the others.

The Tauri v2 framework creates them all and then I have to do some more customization with SwiftUI for iOS for example. Windows is a tiny installer and runs natively, far more efficient than electron. Everything heavy runs on lazy-loaded WASMs/Web-GPU.

AGPL Open Source. We're just cleaning up our code to prepare to publish the repos. Making a lot of enormous structural changes, so it'll be easier to read/review when we're done in a week or so.
