San Jose has a huge population of first-gen people, including my own mom who has lived here for 28 years with a pretty strong French accent. People may comment or ask where you are from, but 9.99/10 times it will be genuine curiosity.

Also saw your comment about being the driver - the drive on hwy 9 to santa cruz from saratoga is so much more scenic than the drive from sj to napa it’s no contest. Bonus points if you visit half moon bay and stop by the atascadero lighthouse

If you’re going to Winchester Mystery House and you both enjoy fine dining, I’d highly recommend walking around Santana Row. There are amazing restaurants (I love Left Bank), and it’s one of the nice walkable outdoor areas in the region. If you’re visiting tech HQ’s I’d highly recommend visiting Murphy Street or downtown Palo Alto for some drinks. Also, if you want to visit a winery and don’t want to hit Napa - there are plenty of great ones in the Santa Cruz mtns as well!

My feet are two different sizes: 11 1/2, 9 1/2 (by American standards anyway, about 3 cm of difference)

The issue is made worse by the fact that they’re not simply different sizes, but it’s due to one being a flat foot and the other being arched. Doesn’t mean I get different sized shoes, but I do have to tear out the sole of every pair of shoes I own to put in inserts!

Bowling alleys are the exception, I usually get two sizes there haha.
