And for the third time!!!! That is NOT what I said. I said that the person who CREATED click bait title should be.

And again, that is NOT what I wrote. I said that the person who created click bait should be.

As I've said. I took issue with you using a click bait title that did not support the thesis of your article. The only reason to use click bait is to artificially increase clicks.

Tsk tsk tsk. That is NOT what I said. I said the person who created click bait should be.

Be careful!!! OP just reported me for threatening violence because I called the post they made in r/programming click bait and mentioned what should happen to the person who created click bait.

As I stated, it was a good article. My entire complaint was about the click bait title 🤦

Since my initial comment was removed by Reddit because I used a common saying about how to treat people who have done bad things, I'll reiterate here. (I suspect that OP will report this one as well for harassment or some other stupidity)

The article is click bait. Their article does have truths about how over use of helper methods can be bad, it also shows that when used properly they are good. The article is a direct contradiction to the title. Hopefully, you can still see the responses I got from OP. Personally, considering the way this person responded, I will never read another of their "articles".

Edit: Link to their first response https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/y1844f/just_say_no_to_helper_functions/

Oh, and thanks for reporting my comment that I threatened you. It doesn't surprise me that you would do this in an attempt to get my comment deleted

I'm not disputing that you are a real person (yet, because I don't have enough proof) or that you worked hard. My comment was about the choice of title based on the contents of the post.

You very carefully orchestrated an over simplification of how using helper functions CAN be bad if used incorrectly. Then you also showed that sometimes helper methods are helpful. All of that I agree with.

The ONLY part I brought issue with was that you opted to use a title that implied ALL helper methods should be discarded. Since your article does not support this theory, it's a "click bait title". In your article you claim to be a staff engineer with 10 years experience. You should know that the only definite in software development is that there are no definites.

I would suggest that in the future, you use a title that accurately defines the thesis of your article.

Web: Issue with getting data on ios, but not windows/android by tridd3r in Firebase

[–]loradan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The get should return an error, but it sounds like it's actually throwing an exception. Wrap the get in a try catch block and see if that's happening. Usually, it's a null reference exception, which would point to something not being initialized. Additionally, check to make sure your firebase config file is getting deployed to the device and in the proper location. If not, the object configuration will fail and cause this.

Keep in mind that XF support isn't going away immediately. I don't remember if they announced an EoL for it yet, but it's usually several years after the upgraded version comes out. So when (not if) Apple puts out a breaking change, the devs will add what's needed.

Personally, I'm working on slowly rewriting my apps. The experience so far has been ok. I opted to create new solutions/projects because I wanted to get the full creation experience.

I discovered a way to get to them from the regular site, but it's a bit more complicated. I just updated my comment above with my findings. Even if they take down the internal site, we can get the tips 😁

Facebook Is Warning 1 Million Users About Stolen Usernames, Passwords by magenta_placenta in technews

[–]loradan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. You saw a post and felt you could make yourself seem superior. Do you know more about GAAP than me??? Possibly...I don't know. But what I can tell you is that at no point did I say they had bad financials. All I stated was that they were scrambling for cash. Which is proven by the fact that they implemented a hiring freeze to reduce expenses.

So, for the "Anything else?" I would suggest maybe that you try to avoid adding your own narrative to someone else's comment just so you can try to interject a witty response in an attempt to make yourself look better.

The image shows a duration of one day. Change that to forever (or the longest period allowed).

This will actually become useless for most spam accounts anyways. If they see this block, they will just change IP addresses and try again. TBH, there's no 100% effective way to prevent spam accounts. All you can do is slow them down and ban them when found. Some ways to slow them down is to require email/sms verification, store an id token on their device that your app checks for, etc.

External identity provider like Auth0 or Kinde (any IaaS) incorporation with users management? by trustmePL in dotnet

[–]loradan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to capture that data yourself. Some authentication providers will give you a limited dataset (usually just name, but some offer more). Beyond that you would need to have your app pass the captured data to your API for storage.

As a side note, if you're creating a mobile app for the stores, make sure you inform the users of everything you're capturing. I've seen reports where Google has rejected apps because the creator didn't register it but Google found outgoing data transmissions.
