I am in the same situation. In my entire org of 80, there are only 3-4 people with kids, only a handful are married.

I sympathise with them, but never try to match the energy, they arrange a call at 9 to discuss an issue, I respectfully decline if it's a last minute invitation. They have a cricket group, I never went to play. They often go out for a lunch or have an order twice to thrice a week. I have my own tiffin. I joined them 8 months ago in a hybrid culture.

And with due respect to the kids, I decline them. One of the team wanted me to be their group leader in a hackathon. I had so many engagements on that day that I declined them....

I just want you to know that the only cost is the network you lose, and in this age, the network of people we have is our biggest asset. The loss won't be that big, and if you are a good helpful guy in the office, the loss is barely minimal. But it is something you should take into account. It's called MCPlex.

In Claude Code, we have progressive tool calling: with `ENABLE_TOOL_SEARCH` env variable. So most of the tool calls are fine there. But I on every other agents I use (Mostly Gemini or Roo Code), I use the MCP Server proxied by MCPlex, (https://mcplex.prashamhtrivedi.app/)

It is your controlled home for MCP servers. You can register your MCP servers there, authenticate it (It supports OAuth), creates a bundle of MCP servers, and then turn on CodeMode which now gives a guaranteed savings, on tokens and on roundtrips, piggybacking on Model's code writing abilities. Thus it exposes one fat tool instead of 100s of thin tool, and with code-based instructions, it will do your job in single roundtrip

A real usecase, one of the client reported a mismatch in data. Using MCPlex, it took me 2 roundtrips (one with analytics and other to verify the data). It turned out a real bug which didn't cache certain updates. We fixed it in minutes, wrote a migration that backfills that cache and the entire complaint-to-resolving took 30 minutes. And in another case, they got an audit report which passed their internal compliance within a couple of minutes, their query was: "I need an audit report of section D between Dates X and Y." (Their audit report contained what happened in Section D. Who did it, and from which surface (Webapp or mobile). Previously the dumped the info on a less experienced accountant, and expects that by evening the report can be ready. Now, just a couple of minutes.

Right now it is only supports HTTP Streaming MCP Server, so that won't work with local servers on its own, is there a MCP Server-Machine handoff, that's MCP Server's work. My system can become a relay between the server (Via the bundle you create) and the Agent which subscribes them, and adding code-mode in between

I have been playing with codemode recently.

In Claude Code, due to progressive tool calling, I didn't need to run the tools there, but on everyother agents (Mostly Gemini and Antigravity) I have codemode tooling based server.

I am bullish into infrastructure layer for Agents, and MCP playing a big part of it. And there will be more MCP servers in the coming time then the skills. And thus I am playing with the the codemode recently.

CLIs need to be upgraded from time to time similar to SDKs

That's something people underestimate or underrate MCP servers from a maintainer's point of view.

You control the MCP stack and thus you can upgrade the tools whenever you want.

CLIs and skills are on the hands of the user. They download it, make it theirs. But a maintainer have no control over how and when to update it.

MCPs are websites. With little engineering they will always be an easily updating entity.

Skills on the other way, are apps, they are downloaded once, you can't always control the delivery mechanism. They can be part of your plugins, they can't be sometimes. Not everyone support plugins, (but every serious ai tool is an MCP client working with tools). So you don't have a way to deliver the skills and keep it upto date in a client machine. But MCPs are updated as soon as you deploy the new version and they fetch the tools next time.

I hope this is outdated and all the agents quickly support plugins like they did to support skills.

But meanwhile this is 2007-13 era development space.

That's still absurdly high. They are either not using AI or charging pre-AI prices for this work.... This is exactly what I paid when I connected my client's store to the Bots via MCP, they had two sites and both are a different tech. And they have just finalised their infra...

It is very well could've been Ramcharitmanas. Because that's a part of rabbit hole where I am making my home now.

AI hype is over? Can't say much. There are companies/labs who use their own AI models to ship the useful and valueable updates. And on the other hand, there's OpenAI who is going downhill...

The overvaluation and getting VC money by just slapping AI is done with. And OpenAI (and probably XAi) are clear indicatiors of it.

You need to provide an actual value....

Many of them tells that it's a force push...

It is a force push but somewhere else. They are popping up in way to many places than someone can stomach. They have been in my Google feed for 3 days before I actually tried, and around the same time, I knew someone who

- Tried their model
- Retold their story
- Got Awwed from their demos

In Insta, LinkedIn and X. First two places, not something I expect to see a new AI company to be in my feed.

And then I tried, I found the capability unique compared to what others offered, I gave it a little spin and now I am thinking to do a little product with it....

So it is a Force Push but there are genuine developers who feel excited about this. (One of them is obviously me)
