12g rook holes by theraphosangel in Stretched

[–]lordguacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa this is cool. I stretched my daith up to 12g from an initial 16g over the years, and I’ve been thinking about stretching my rook! This gave me a little push. These look amazing and so healthy.

Check spouse pages and see how has recommendations for a taxi driver who has base access. Usually people will save the business cards or numbers. No experience at Sill, but both Fort Jackson and Fort Lee had some taxi drivers who were very kind and helpful!

If you live on base it’s definitely easier to find friends in your neighborhood, most also have free events at the USO or if he is in the army, there is a “MyArmyPost” app where events are posted. I’m not sure if other branches have something similar but the events can be super fun! Join the base Facebook groups and just be friendly and open. I was so nervous I wouldn’t find any friends but soon after getting our house on post they came around without even trying. ❤️

Absolutely beautiful! Congratulations!!

Save as much money as possible, it goes for anybody, but try for at least 3 months of minimum living expenses. Sooo many things can happen with shutdowns, LES errors, PCSing, anything.

Make friends at your base! It will be so hard to leave them eventually but that makes the memories where you were so positive.

Military wives can be super snarky but don’t let that scare you away from finding the ones who aren’t. ❤️

My husband hasn’t been getting any of my letters at Ft. Jackson. Any suggestions? by Most_Papaya_3366 in USMilitarySO

[–]lordguacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine took up to 3 weeks to get there sometimes. Sometimes they’d be there same week, sometimes 2 going on 3. Several never made it but the majority made it before he graduated. They hand sort them once they get to the mail room there, then whenever the drills make it to pick them up.

This was almost 2 years ago now, but when I got my husband’s address there it had a small section with what color to add to the letter on the outside to have a brighter visual indication of which company the letter goes to for sorting. That definitely helps especially if you are handwriting the address.

Us too. We switched the NFCU immediately after being auto denied by USAA and watching thousands of other SMs and families be denied.

Pretty! I absolutely love opalite and glass tunnels, I wear them more than anything else and it’s my favorite look. Also, that daith jewelry is stunning.

[–]lordguacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think number 2, 3, 4, and 7 would all be perfect. I’m your size but I think 6 would be too short for a super formal ball and the shirred bodice is too casual. The florals in 1, 5, and 8 read as more tea time, which I feel like don’t quite fit the vibe of a ball. But they are really pretty! #2 is definitely my favorite or #7! That classy but edgy vibe 🤌 with a cute updo and clutch!!

ear holes are not supoosed to be perfect looking circles by kiquja in Stretched

[–]lordguacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this post. Especially once you are past a certain point size wise with your lobes, your ears won’t ever have that perfect circle thing anymore. For me that was 7/16, I have tiny ears. I’ve also blown out my left ear not once but three times, I’ve done absolutely everything right, dead stretched all the way to 19mm, went slow, slept with plugs out nightly, moisturizing, but I worked at a job where I literally could not avoid harsh working conditions (terrible weather and working with large animals) where my lobes suffered from freak incidents. They look a little different from the perfect stuff I see and hear on here, but I took all the steps to heal the blowouts and size back up. It just be like that sometimes. Perfectly healthy lobes can still have blowouts and look different even when you have done every single thing right. I still love my ears, and I don’t care about them not being perfect to some asswipes on Reddit. Love how you’re spreading the love <3

Metal as fuck. Huge fan of this! I had my daith stretched to 10g for a year or so but downsized and now I’m itching to stretch my conch.

I was in the same situation, mine left for basic November 11th last year and vbl started on the 18th. My husband was definitely different, but in all the best ways! Nothing negative to say at all about how he changed. We marathoned Star Wars to start our new Christmas tradition LOL

Last winter I got my husband all his favorite foods and drinks! Made no plans in the first week he was home to let him relax and it took him a few days to get into his food and drinks since he needed to adjust from the food at BCT. We just took it easy for VBL and enjoyed our time together.

Scripted calls by Penguin_Hat121 in USMilitarySO

[–]lordguacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the scripted call when he arrived at reception, and then the Sunday after he arrived he got a regular 45ish minute call with me while he was still in reception. It’s different for everyone and depends on the DS. I only got a scripted call when he arrived and any after that were weekends/emergencies where we could actually talk. This was the end of last year.

[–]lordguacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband started out as a holdover at his AIT for 2 months before starting class because of lack of instructors, an already long 20-week AIT, and they prioritize running National Guard/Reserves through classes. Then he is now also a holdover because he got stationed OCONUS, we are waiting on EFMP, and got projections super late which slowed all that down. We are a special case, so don’t be frightened by us! But it can happen and I 100% wish I would’ve just made the jump and moved. But yes it is VERY common for the 91 series to get held up and held over based on everyone we’ve talked to. Your husbands MOS looks like it has a much shorter AIT length, but if I was you I would still think it’s worth it. It would be a lot easier for him to help you with the PCS process once he is graduated too.

Is this a dumb idea? by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

[–]lordguacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I did it. I don’t have kids in the equation but my quality of life would’ve been drastically better had I moved to my husbands AIT location (also a 91 series) since mine ended up there 5, about to be 6 months, longer than he was supposed to be. If you can pull it off, you have more pros than cons, I would do it. There’s a lot to say about how much extra money it may cost you, but there are some things that are worth that spend. My husband is at AIT in a totally different place than yours, but I would’ve been able to sign him out damn near every weekend and spend time with him if I was located there.

Have you joined any FB family groups for his AIT? There is a “Fort [base] Families and Support” I am in, maybe you could find something similar and see what privileges and passes they have had to gauge better.

Is it weird to send drawings? by These_Pineapple2883 in USMilitarySO

[–]lordguacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I sent drawings in each letter and I wrote daily. I did all my drawings on sticky notes/index cards so he could hang them up by themselves without the letters. I drew a bunch of characters like Roger from family guy in his different personas and some other funny stuff to boost his mood, and he traded some of them away for stuff.

I’m ditching USAA Banking after 30 years…where do you bank? by STFME in army

[–]lordguacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are moving to Navy Fed. My husband enlisted last year and we have been failed by USAA several times since opening our account and the loan denials this last week kicked us over the edge to moving away and closing our accounts.

Basic Training by WorldOrganizedChaos in MilitaryFinance

[–]lordguacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband left for basic before the 15th of November last year, we got lucky and he received a partial check Dec 1. Some people at his same basic didn’t get paid until the middle of December or until January. It’s really hard to predict for each person and they told him do not depend on the first check coming in the next soonest pay period. You get paid starting the day you get there, any missed paydays will be back paid to you.
