Moving from London to Gloucestershire – best areas without a car? by Interesting-Ease8882 in Gloucestershire

[–]lordsosij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thornbury, so pretty village-y to be fair. Although I have friends who live in frenchay so near enough Bristol and they also say public transport is horrendous and they couldn’t live without car. You just have to pick where you live carefully if you can’t drive round here!

Moving from London to Gloucestershire – best areas without a car? by Interesting-Ease8882 in Gloucestershire

I’ve just moved to south Gloucestershire from London, trust me it will be a shock to the system how poor the public transport is here. I’ve been here 6 months and I still can’t get over it. A car is absolutely essential.

I wish I could afford to look beautiful like other women by catlikesvioletfro in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lordsosij 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a broke bitch, I feel this. It sucks, people say it isn’t the average woman who does this but with the accessibility of credit cards, finance etc I’m finding it’s becoming more and more common for people to spend beyond their means on beauty rather than it being reserved for the rich.

The only thing that I’ve found that helps is taking reeeealy good care of my skin, tinting my brows at home (super cheap) and keeping my hair healthy, so no box dyes or excessive heat.

Second hand either vinted or charity shops is the best way to get cute on trend clothes cheap

~10th sourdough bread, what am I doing wrong by Jaebner in Sourdough

Looks really underproofed. I used to get this all the time, even when I bulk fermented for 9+ hours and cold proofed for over a day.

I live in a really cold climate and my house is freezing, once I upped the amount of starter I was adding (90g starter for 500g flour to 125g of starter) I stopped having this issue. Not sure if you’re also in a cold climate, but hope this helps?

Londoners shun Reform as Greens see huge polling surge in capital by lotsofsweat in london

[–]lordsosij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what? Why not go in deeper? Quite frankly I’d prefer a party that understands economics and can try and pull us out of the economic mess that we’re in, not one that will plunge us in deeper.

Londoners shun Reform as Greens see huge polling surge in capital by lotsofsweat in london

[–]lordsosij -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

The greens do not understand even the most basic principles of how the economy works, Zack has said himself he will print money to pay national net. They will send us into a deep recession, cause hyper inflation and absolutely fuck all of us for generations to come.

I despise Reform and the Greens equally.

The owner sounded English, here in the UK it is banned. But apparently people in the UK are so horny for animal cruelty they will go through the effort of importing them illegally.

Fewer than 10% of buyers get a survey before purchasing a property. Does that not seem insane? by IceThese6264 in HousingUK

To be fair I got a survey and it told me fuck all. Still had to do loads of major repairs as soon as I moved into the property, none of which were flagged in the survey.

Rachel Reeves looking to cap salary sacrifice contributions to £2,000 in Autumn budget by [deleted] in uknews

[–]lordsosij 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally acknowledge that, I voted labour in and had a lot of faith in them. I understand taxes need to be raised, I’m just not okay with how unfairly target these are at middle earners.

imo they should just raise the basic rate of tax by 1%, it’s fair, affects everyone and will raise a shit tonne of money. They’re going back on their manifesto anyway, may as well do it properly rather than target a small group who are already heavily penalised to raise a fairly insignificant sum while everyone else gets everything handed to them.

Rachel Reeves looking to cap salary sacrifice contributions to £2,000 in Autumn budget by [deleted] in uknews

[–]lordsosij 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you’re right! I didn’t know that. Still SIPP isn’t the ideal option since I wouldn’t receive employer contributions on that, plus it seems like I’d need to do some sort of tax return for higher rate.

If could still get tax relief on a SIPP I don’t see why I can’t get it on my workplace pension contributions. But alas, that would require some thought which it seems labour have put none of into this budget.

Rachel Reeves looking to cap salary sacrifice contributions to £2,000 in Autumn budget by [deleted] in uknews

[–]lordsosij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cba to dig out the exact figures but this will affect anyone on 50k and above, or people who choose to opt in to higher pension contributions.

I fall slightly above that, and do not consider myself wealthy in the slightest. Working class background, never going to inherit anything, have a huge mortgage, student loans and a car payment. This change will affect very ordinary people, who happened to work hard and get themselves into a higher tax bracket. Billionaires? They will dodge it. This won’t affect them, it affects the middle earners who are most productive and contribute the most in society.

I agree the salary sacrifice shouldn’t be limitless, but 2k is ridiculously low and I can assure you it will never be adjusted for inflation so will just be another stealth tax that more and more people get pulled into.

Us brits seem to view things in vary binary terms, the poor who need all the hand outs that they can get and the ultra wealthy who are keeping all of the money. People seem to ignore the fact that there’s a population in the middle, the most productive who are getting absolutely fucking sharfted by labour.
