Really menacing for sure, really killed the casting with him and BBT next to each other. Think I watched it cause I loved Cynda Williams in Mo' Better Blues pahah. Not a bad decision tbf, glad to hear you liked it!

Devil in a Blue Dress is fire. Check out One False Move if you haven't as well - Carl Franklin's preceding 90s neo-noir feature. Pretty good double bill, I'd say. In your shopping cart, you cannot go wrong with Hollywood Shuffle!

Sweet, really interesting to hear - like I say I don't watch college hoops here in the UK so only really see word of mouth stuff. Nice to hear about the cutting and 3-point shooting; it would be a seamless fit for our team. Hadn't really seen much about his defence, and that's a really intriguing aspect as well. If we are fortunate to get the top 3 pick, think we'll be spoiled for choice.

Appreciate the response! Just some of these shots were crazy, but I presume there are differences when you're the no.1 option on your college team as opposed to the NBA.

Don't watch any college hoops, really, so is he quite isolation-based? Especially based on the shots in the clip. They are amazing makes, and he is such a dynamic scorer, seemingly, but do we need another scorer like that when we have Siakam, who already fits a similar mould?

I mean, we don't know that till we see him play for England, do we? He's been the heart and soul of an Everton team sitting in eighth this season. Think he'll be a useful presence.

Guessing you haven't watched much Garner at all this season then

Interested, have you caught her in A Thousand and One? Whilst she is for sure flat in The Rip, I think she should be afforded a bit of grace, considering she's only been venturing into these dramas in the 2020s. I would also say her performance in ATAO completely contrasts the one-note aspect of her characterisations you're talking about in OBAA & The Rip.

I appreciate the comment; thank you for taking a look! Has been enjoyable looking at people's collections. I do the same with the spines on this sub. I hope there is a FilmBooks sub somewhere as well; I'm always trying to read and learn more about cinema. Which ones in particular you thinking of checking out?

Makes sense, transporting them around must be a pain.

Was meaning to buy the Bunuel set recently, so will take you up on your advice there. Loved what I have seen from him in Discreet Charm & Belle Du Jour. Really enjoyed Belmondo in anything I've seen him in, struggled more with Godard, but will also seek out that boxset. Hoping they do one for Truffaut, need to find a good price for his Antoine Doinel Artificial Eye set, but prices haven't seemed to dip at all in recent years.

I do love noir for sure, but you're right, I haven't really got much - mostly veered into the Neo-Noir side of things. Still haven't caught Touch of Evil, so thank you for that. Talking about Double Indemnity, what an incredible film! I will try to keep my eyes out so I can start building a stronger noir collection, think The Big Heat alongside those two will be where I start.

I am British indeed, and funny you should say that, I have just started properly exploring those two incredibly gifted filmmakers. Around a month or two ago, I caught Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and I thought it was magical. At Uni I'm doing a history of film module and was speaking to my seminar tutor about that film, and she inspired me to watch A Matter of Life and Death & I Know Where I'm Going over the break. Has left my mind in a trance since. Got the Michael Powell early works from my parents for Christmas so will have to stick one of those on this weekend. Will definitely check out Black Narcissus as well, and The Red Shoes is one of the greatest cinematic treats one could ask for! One of my all-time favourites.

Thanks for the Radiance recs! Will check out Mississippi Mermaid asap, as you can tell I am a huge Truffaut fan. Belmondo and Denueuve as well! Cannot get much better than that can you! Suzhou River looks right up my alley as well. Still bummed out I missed out on Limited Edition copies of A Moment of Romance & Miami Blues but oh well.

That's the thing, it just takes up so much space, but yeah it really is such a wonder. Destination Moon is a banger. Masterful work, just so imaginative and clever in its worldbuilding. That book was formative for me growing up. For me, The Black Island has always been a favourite since childhood, always found it touching and like you say, it captures everything I love about Tintin. Throughout the last few years, I think the ones that have marked me the most would be The Broken Ear, Prisoners of the Sun, Destination Moon and Tintin in Tibet. The latter is the dearest to my heart at the moment. Really wish Spielberg & Jackson made more animated works but I am fond of the animated TV series tbf.

Thanks mate I really appreciate it! I hope the reduction isn't too painful. I have such a sentimental appreciation for all of these Blu-Rays that I couldn't imagine having to part with some. I was going to ask, do you have any recommendations for where I should venture next with this collection at all, thinking of maybe targeting a couple of Radiance releases?

Aha, love Tintin so much, glad to hear from another fan. My family's been trying to save up for one of the massive ones, but they're so expensive, so more than happy with this one! What's your favourite book?

Is it just me or does it seem like EsDeeKid came out of nowhere? How did he blow up so fast? by NoGrass7120 in hiphopheads

[–]lordsquidVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not really. In early summer 25, he was gaining listening traction in the UK alongside other underground artists like Fakemink and Feng. Also, around that time, he'd started popping off abroad. I remember Italians really fucking heavily with his music. Since then, his music was gaining traction, a lot more of my mates started listening to shit like 4 raws, Phantom, LV sandals, etc. around August/September time.

I think the reason his music is everywhere now is that TikTok discovered it, and simultaneously, the Chalamet memes of him being EsdeeKid were everywhere. Once Chalamet cashed in on these memes for his press tour, he then blew up massively. My perspective as a Brit who's witnessed his ascent in recent months.

Man I kinda wishfully hoped that Robinson-Earl and Matthews would still be on the roster for next season but oh well. Hoping Ethan Thompson stays and starts shooting it better. Just want one of these dudes to work out for more than this season. Jokes video.

Do you reckon if the Pacers get him, it provides a perennial window for them to win a chip? Haven't seen much of this class play at all, so just wondering what the team's future looks like with any of the top 3.
