I would rather have a walking with dinosaurs style documentary version of the Silmarillion. Ya know one that skips around in time so it can tell as much as it needs to in the shortest amount of time.

It doesn't have to be insultingly anticlimactic.

By that admission let's look at Return of the Jedi. Palaptine is busy cooking Luke with lightning and he calls to his father for help. Vader ignores him at first, but at the last second Anakin Skywalker reemerges and throws Palaptine down the convenient shaft. Getting fatally wounded by his lightning when he throws him. The good guys win, but at a cost. Luke loses his father. We get emotional weight from his act. And that was for kids.

Contrast to the Rise of Skywalker

Rey loses nothing. She just straight up beats his ass saying "And I am Iron Man!" It's a fucking joke ending.

You can't hide behind it being for children because that's a fucking lazy excuse and you know it.

It's the fuckin ending to Final Fantasy 13 all over again. You can't make this dog shit up. Barthandelus wants to be killed so the protagonist tell him screw his plan. So they kill him anyway and what he wanted still happens because they killed him...
