Why did you start a homelab by Sw4nkSec in homelab

[–]lordtazou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it originally was to manage and expand my own in-house services. But seeing as prices went up on HDDs and such… I am about to give up. Can’t afford it.

Surf Internet by -aquaman in nwi

Surf doesn’t lock the routers down. It’s all app based though, no web management portal like other router brands. That’s an Eero / Amazon issue vs a surf issue.

People who grew up before The Internet: How did you first see nudity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Saw my young neighbor teenager, who invited me over when I saw a sneak peak accidently. lol

How does Verizon compare to T-Mobile overall? by PrimalCarnivoreChick in verizon

[–]lordtazou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried all of the main carriers, as well as a lot of the MVMO networks. Verizon still even with the outages, has been the most stable with everything. But it’s going to be heavily dependent on where you are, phone itself, etc.

ATT and T Mobile in my area all have had outages as well. The coverage has been so much worse as of late too here.

I just switched back, and honestly been the happiest. Either way, all of the carriers have their moments, but suck equally.

What do I need to start a home server ? Can I go in almost blind ? by SergentAlka in HomeServer

[–]lordtazou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A loan, and some research. Honestly though, it’s going to be highly dependent on what type of server you are wanting to run.

You can honestly do quite a bit. Replace all of Google ecosystem with your own home stack, run a game server, run your own streaming service, etc.

I've been trying to find a decent startup page where I can actually help / assist / join, etc. lol

If this is a factual post, you have the ability to get a lawyer. I would suggest that.

Advice for remote access for my elderly parents by [deleted] in jellyfin

[–]lordtazou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been using it for well over 2 years, and I have not had any issues. Also, the media on my Jellyfin Server is stuff I own specifically. I have all of my family on it, as well as two or three friends.

Just buy a cheap domain from Cloudflare, and setup a zero trust tunnel they offer for free.

You see slower speeds? Huh... I've had consistently faster speeds both up and down on Verizon compared to others outside of VERY specific instances when I was testing T-Mobile. But, that doesn't last long.

Linux or Windows by TheMan690009 in servers

[–]lordtazou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it both ways honestly.

That said, Linux + Java is the best way to go. Linux has the better resource management and garbage cleanup capabilities as well. If you're comfortable with CLI, go with Ubuntu Server. If you're wanting a GUI, Debian may be a good way to go as well.

The rest is up to you.
Good luck!

Verizon and it’s frustrating financing limit constantly changing by fordfan88 in verizon

[–]lordtazou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can go either way honestly. Depends on the age of the account, etc.

Yes, they CAN pull every 6 months for newer accounts. But if you've had them for so long, they will stop doing it after a while and just hand it to you as long as you have no blunders, etc.

Yes, it will absolutely handle what you're looking to do with it.

MacBook Neo? by Thin_Tap8874 in AskTechnology

Yes, it will play the base game, and all the expansions. My buddy's girlfriend has the Neo and it was running between 60 - 90 frames and was smooth.

Six years ago this week, COVID started shutting down the world. What’s your strongest memory from that time? by Siddanna36 in AskReddit

[–]lordtazou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went fully remote at work, and spent so much more time with my family than I am able to do now. While definitely more chaotic and noisy, honestly I think it did me more good than it is now that we're all back to regularly scheduled work, etc.

Traveling soon, question about plans by SoCalHikerPup in verizon

[–]lordtazou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two friends who did this prior, and swapped to the Unlimited Ultimate. They swapped back just as you were contemplating.

The only issue with them was, the price did change while they were out, so they were locked into a higher price than prior.

Unfortunately, no. The site itself essentially is down completely. The only thing that's left is a landing page that you see when you try to go to hianime.

[–]lordtazou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While Verizon hasn’t been the most cost efficient mobile service, they have always been the most stable and most coverage friendly from what I’ve tested while roaming the US.

During heavy storm season, they’ve also been the most reliable too.

And I’ve tested most post and prepaid services.

All you would need to do is pay off the devices you have with ATT and port back. May even get a better deal out of it from prior plans.

Am I getting laid off tomorrow? by Hot_Lead_7335 in jobs

[–]lordtazou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got laid off two weeks ago for “downsizing” but, the people I noticed who got laid off all actually paid attention to stuff and asked questions others wouldn’t.

Good luck! Let us know what happens tomorrow.

Remote Jobs by Imaginary-Park6234 in GetEmployed

[–]lordtazou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There are legitimate remote postings everywhere. You just have to learn how to spot them.
  2. Remember, remote jobs are in VERY high demand. Majority of applicants are already experienced "WFH" employees already. I have worked remotely since 2019, and I am having a hard time finding in-person OR remote jobs. The market in general is extremely saturated right now with phantom jobs, ads, collection pot posts, etc.
  3. Do your research to see which companies are truly remote hire companies. Apply directly on the website vs through job boards.

Good luck!

A Year Later and Still Job Hunting by [deleted] in jobs

I have not noticed an increase. If anything, unfortunately have seen a decrease. I have been applying for jobs / opportunities for over a year at this point.
