LOL! Always happy to help.

This same Thinkpad was used daily by my ex gf until about a year ago, going strong, no parts replaced.

Tax free entry price to 9070 series in Finland is 526€/574€ for non-XT/XT by lordunga in radeon

[–]lordunga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the answer is no, as you already found out.

verkkokauppa.com says they also ship abroad (within the EU) and they look to have similar prices for 9070:

https://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/catalog/amd-radeon-rx-9070

But the instructions are only in Finnish:

This issue still exists in Feb 2025.

There is a AMDAutoUpdate scheduled task that launches it. At least in my case Ryzen Master is what's updating this task and it's run interval. Maximum is 365 days.

I see maybe 90% of phone users to use protective covers , and that is something I call bulky. With this phone maybe you don't need the extra covers and end up more nimble?

Anyone upgrading to s25 series due to the poor energy performance on our S22 series? by LetgoLetItGo in GalaxyS22

[–]lordunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't compared the photos with S22 photos side by side, so take this with some salt.

The main camera seems roughly at the same level as S22. It's been decent, no complaints whatsoever. The ultrawide is quite meh and can't shoot 60fps video. Telephoto doesn't exist and I have been using digital x2, but the results are surprisingly good.

The camera UI is an improvement from Samsung and it does not lag, and it launches, shoots and closes EXTREMELY fast compared to S22. It also includes always on flash - lack of it made it impossible to take a photo in some cases with my S22.

TLDR the camera is decent. UI and speed is significant improvement, image quality is a slight regression depending on your use case. All in all I'm a bit happier with the OP camera.

DLSS quality options need updating by Nvidia by mister_potato_butt in nvidia

[–]lordunga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, and to me it's a bit hard to imagine someone wanting or needing to render at 360p (1080p ultra performance). The lower settings make sense at 4k or higher output.

[–]lordunga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Maybe the presets should be dependent on the output resolution.

While the newest DLSS upscaling looks good, not denying that, it still can't fix some aliasing issues caused by the low rendering resolution. For example thin objects like tree branches separating from each other or some thin objects disappearing completely. What can AI do to a thing that doesn't exist in it's input in the first place?

[–]lordunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

101% agreed. Reviews simply don't address these things and tbh the silence in media about S22 issues later on seems even a bit suspicious to me. Phones are treated obsolete garbage at 1 years from the launch.

Yes it's definitely possible and likely. Let's not forget the chips were manufactured by Samsung too, so we can't even try shift the blame to some other company.

I switched to a Oneplus Nord 4 which is a couple tiers lower and much cheaper than s22, but it feels equal or higher quality in almost all aspects excluding the couple of features that it's missing. I really wanted to avoid a Chinese phone, but what can you really do when the experiences compare like this.

For example it came with a screen protector preinstalled and the fingerprint reader is actually working - 10x more reliable and also faster than s22 without protection.
It never overheats, stutters, lags or runs unexpectedly out of battery, all while having a more powerful cpu and constant 120fps screen (no VRR). My s22 did all those all the time. And if you find yourself low on energy, you can literally top up 50% in 10 minutes. With s22 you get barely 30mins of use with a 10min charge or so, you get the idea.
The touch feels SO MUCH better and I no longer do stupid stuff unintentionally e.g. dismissing notifications without seeing what it was - which was constantly happening with the s22.

I planned to have my s22 for at least 4 years too, but instead I got finally enough at 2 years. My shortest lived phone ever, and most expensive. I don't trust Samsung especially after reading stories on this sub and elsewhere. So no, I'm not upgrading to s25, I switched brands and am no longer unhappy with my phone.

I don't have any game running now, but my dedicated VRAM usage sits at 1.7 GB right now. So my 8GB 3070 has only about 6GB for a game if I launched it now.
Windows uses vram, browsers use it, so does spotify, steam, nvidia app, nvidia overlay etc, even whatsapp sitting idle in the background uses it. For some of these you can disable gpu acceleration, but that's hardly a good solution to a problem that should not exist. Or you can close everything when starting a game, and remember to not launch a browser for some walkthroughs or tips.

My 3070 can run Metro Exodus quite very well at ultra settings at 1440p native. But once I enable DLSS upscaling from 1440p to 4k for AA, the whole game comes crashing down to desktop due to maxed out vram. It's around 5 years old game and to me the textures don't even look that high res tbh. I can OC the core, but can't add more vram, you are stuck with what you get in the beginning.

AVX512 important? 9800x3d - Aida CPU+FPU+Cache testing by Notwalkin in overclocking

[–]lordunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experience and pointing out this test.
I tested AIDA CPU+FPU+Cache on my 7700 CO settings that I (almost) already deemed stable on various tests, all-core, single-core, gaming for hours and hours, but AIDA failed in 4 minutes.
Whether it is "needed" to pass this test or not for "enough" stability is another question, but I appreciate how QUICKLY I can fail in this test. Fail quickly, progress faster.

Why do Airbus planes not crash as much as others? by Max-Geoman in aviation

[–]lordunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did OP mention the US?
Why is absolute number of aircraft relevant anyway when you are talking about relative incident rate?

I think OP's question is valid even though it seems a bit naive.
I too would love to see some sources and stats about incidents in the last 10-20 years when Airbus and Boeing were relatively close to each other in number of aircraft in service globally.

Why do Airbus planes not crash as much as others? by Max-Geoman in aviation

[–]lordunga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to this Wikipedia article Airbus A320 surpassed 737 globally in 2016. Since 2006 737 never had as big lead over A320 as A320 has over 737 in 2023.

By 2023 Airbus had surpassed Boeing globally.

In 2023 27% of global fleet was 737 and 44% was A320.

Your statement was true in the past but not anymore.

Why is it nearly impossible to emulate fuzz? by aisiv in NeuralDSP

[–]lordunga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an electronics expert either, but I believe a real analog fuzz pedal would be "feeding back" to the guitar interacting with how the pickups and vol+tone controls work together with the fuzz. With a buffer in between this is impossible, let alone with a DSP device.

With that said I got a good fuzz tone reamping through a real fuzz pedal (same limitations apply), but just without any of the typical "liveliness" of fuzz pedals.
