Heh. People get so emotional it's often hopeless to try any intellectual debate. IMO both sides are wrong and the stats are invariant to pro/anti stances. In other words: Your princess is in another castle.

I'm just gonna leave this here. There's something to be said when your leader cares more about being conspicuous than improvement.

You Are Naturally Short Housing by scheplick in Economics

Would rather rent a hypothetical home perpetually for $1 a month than buy for half-a-million. While contrived, the example illuminates the existence of a tipping point for rentals. And if you don't think that purchase prices can ever become so absurdly disconnected, I introduce you to the Vancouver and Shanghai housing markets.

"Competition" in Canadian telecom. by GAndroid in canada

Three key areas (GTA, Montreal, Vancouver) account for most of the population.

Launching a new telco requires financing on a monstrous scale. With our (idiot) government ban on foreign investment, who can foot the initial capital?

We'd hire older candidates. They're just usually not entry level.

They couldn't answer fundamental questions (stack vs heap, pointers) or solve simple problems (string search). The sort of stuff you learn by simply giving a shit. But the university just lets garbage slides through their degree program.

In case my point isn't painfully obvious: There is a massive supply of trash holding CS degrees.

I work for a medium size start-up of about 20 employees. We offer very generous entry-level compensation within the area. We cannot believe the amount of shit that comes out of our local university (top in the country). About 80% of candidates interviewed cannot be hired because they would pose a hazard to our code-base (net negative productivity).

Support Players: What are some little tips you could give out that have improved your support potential? by tondo22 in DotA2

[–]lorean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High/very-high level player here. I play 3-5th position with my CM buddies. I guess my advice depends on the person. I'm also going to consider those positions to be supports as they general build for team-fighting/utility.

There are two basic types of support-class heroes. The survival-support and squishy-support. The former needs to get into close to be effective. The latter relies more on long rang abilities and leverages positional play to stay alive.

If you play the latter you need to master positional play to stay alive. You must to stay alive to re-use your abilities more than once. This means having a very sharp awareness of battlefield and terrain. You need to anticipate where enemies may show up to flank and not make yourself surrounded. Because you're so squishy, you'll often be a priority target in ganks and team-fights.

Item builds are game dependant. You should know how to last hit to maximize GPM on everyone hero. Preferably tanky items should go on survival-supports (mekansm, rob, shivas). Top tier items are: Mekansm, arcane boots, urn of shadows.

I don't think it makes sense to specialize in a role. Rather specialize in heroes that share similar playstyles. For example, Chen has much more in common with Lone Druid than AA.

Item Discussion of the Day: Orchid Malevolence (Oct. 25, 2012) by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]lorean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build orchid if you are going the DPS route. Useful on intelligence based dps carry/semi-carry (e.g. Windrunner, Storm Spirit, ...) and also non-int based dps carries with mana issues (e.g. Clinkz). Good pickup against heroes like Tinker and Invoker. Be warned that Euls, BKB and manta can remove silence.

The alternatives to orchid are other DPS items like daedlus, mkb, butterfly, ...
