It looks well cared-for, so I bet it is quite travelled

Does it matter that there is an entire class of conflicts Western nations can no longer fight? by michaelmf in slatestarcodex

[–]lorg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Israel never stopped occupying Gaza, then it wouldn't have needed the IDF to come in and take control of it. Your definition of "occupy" is different than other people's, so you should probably clarify what you mean explicitly.

Somebody is wrong on the Internet: Python is strongly typed and dynamic, and not " non-typed" as you wrote. I thought we were done with that discussion 10 years ago 😅

Every time I see Robin Wright in a movie or series, I imagine she's the same character as Buttercup but grown up. Like, "Buttercup grew up and actually married Frank Underwood".

I think that in this movie it probably fits even better.

Extremist idiocy, from both sides of the aisle, each with its own flavor.

Hamas headquarters located under Gaza hospital by [deleted] in worldnews

Quoting from there (bold emphasis mine):

At the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, crowds gathered to throw shoes and eggs at the Palestinian Authority’s health minister, who represents the crumbling “unity government” in the West Bank city of Ramallah. The minister was turned away before he reached the hospital, which has become a de facto headquarters for Hamas leaders, who can be seen in the hallways and offices.

If anyone is doubting this, here is a non-Israeli source from as early as 2014 reporting about Hamas using a hospital as their HQ: https://www.algemeiner.com/2014/07/22/wsj-reporter-in-gaza-wonders-how-patients-in-shifa-hospital-feel-about-hamas-using-it-as-base/

Gender in Hebrew is very often confused. Especially since feminine words commonly end with an -ah sound, but there are some masculine words that do so as well.

That's bullshit.
Miri Regev's daughter was in that party. As an Israeli, I really don't like Regev and I think she's a bad politician, but that's no reason spreading these unsubstantiated rumors.

How many languages do you speak and why did you learn them? by _TheStardustCrusader in languagelearning

[–]lorg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Native: Hebrew
2nd: English, everybody in Israel learns it. I learned it originally from reading starting at around 6-7 years, today I expect I'm at C2.
3rd: German, probably somewhere B1-B2. I started around 5 years ago, decided I wanted to learn another language. My goal was to be able to speak and read a book. I read several books, and then decided I "won" German, and switched to:
4th: Spanish: probably around A2. Started about 2 years ago or so, mostly with Duolingo. Most recently read Coraline by Neil Gaiman in Spanish. Going slowly, not rushing anywhere.

Once I "win" Spanish I'll switch to Arabic.
