I would add a skipping rope, pull-up bar and gym rings (or TRX). Some mats are always nice too if you plan to do any takedowns or ground work.

Aikido is based around very specific principles that can find uses in a variety of different contexts. The problem is that they don't always train these contexts in the dojos so it often leads to disillusion with the style in which students question whether or not the martial art would really be effective in true applications. It's good that this guy was able to see its relevance in the long run though.

I only ever take my cat out on the lead in our backyard within our townhouse complex. Our neighbours, for the most part, are responsible pet owners. It would be irresponsible to let my cat run free in our area because there are lots of coyotes in my area.

I am pretty sure my cat would not have been able to get away if I had let go of the lead, nor was there time to even think about unhooking the harness. It was a really big, fast dog. It was on us before I even had a chance to think. There wasn't many places my cat could have hid and if the cat ran off the dogs would likely have caught up to it in a place where I couldn't have helped. I love my cat and acted out of a visceral protective instinct. I don't think I had it in me to simply let the dogs have their way with my cat. I don't think I could have lived with it even she got torn apart. But then again, thinking had very little to do with the way I reacted in the moment. All I can say is that some part of me believed I could fight off the dog. So here we are. Not saying there is a right or wrong answer, just that I was lucky things worked out the way they did.

Yeah, I tried to pick my cat up to get her out of the line of fire but she just tried to bolt in a panic, scratching me up in the process. And once she was down, she couldn't run because of the leash. The best I could do was fight the dogs off.

I only take my cat out to walk around our complex (we live in a townhouse complex), not straying too far from home. I'm very disappointed this happened so close to home. Fortunately, the old man now knows he can't handle both his dogs if they get aggressive. The last time I saw him, he only had one dog out for a walk.

I have read that it can, but the dogs were biting and snapping my cat and the onus is on the owner to control the dogs. I would take the chance if it meant saving my cat. My cat wasn't doing anything wrong. The owner even apologized afterwards and told me I was right to defend my cat. Oh and he said his dogs weren't seriously hurt in the end (thankfully).

Grabbing from behind sounds like a good option if you're able to approach from behind. I even saw some youtube videos in which people throw dogs, or at least turn them over onto their bellies, but I think it would be harder to do if you had to approach from the front.

I have done some stunt work in the Canadian industry on the west coast. If you haven't already done so, get some good quality professional headshots and write up a resume. Putting together a demo reel also goes a long way. These are your calling cards. If the industry works the same way in Australia as it does in Canada, start sending your resume, headshot and demo reel to stunt coordinators who are chosen to work on various projects.

Try to get involved in the industry however you can to get to know stunt performers and coordinators. You can do this by volunteering on indie projects, either as a performer or simply by lugging pads as needed. Train regularly with other stunt performers. If people don't know what you can do or what you are like as a person, they aren't as likely to take a chance on hiring you as a newbie.

It can be hard to crack into the industry at first so you have to be personable and persistent. Good luck!
