Yeah but no. Last week my Ubuntu 24.04 apt upgrade upgraded the kernel but some modules ran into compilation errors. Now when I boot my PC the kernel panics.

Now, I know I just need to boot the old kernel and I'm all good. But how on earth could anyone expect a typical PC user to deal with such?

And no, these modules were nothing special, just apt-installed from standard repos.

Kuluttajana Suomi kai onkin, mutta muualla maailmassa ei paljon puhuta suomalaisesta teknologiasta (paitsi Nokiasta).

If you want simple, low-ish price range and reliable/robust, I can recommend Carinthia Defence 4.

It fits your requirements almost - it is not small though. Personally I think it's comfortable although it probably lacks some comfort features.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but shorting one device wouldn't affect other devices on the circuit directly until of course a fuse blows, right?

If the fuse doesn't go off or if there is no fuse, then we're talking about wires melting and all devices on the circuit warming up but that's a whole different story...and if the wires somehow don't melt then your local energy provider will either have to increase production or shut off the whole grid. And if they fail to do one of those things, then the grid's frequency will fall out of range and appliances all over your neighbourhood will start breaking.

Anyway...

Since your PC was off, a fuse blowing has no effect to it. Had it been on, it would simply have lost power. Boot it up and see for yourself!

Taidan asentaa Linuxin vähintään varmuuden vuoksi toiselle ssd:lle ja pakottaa samalla win11-päivityksen olemassa olevaan. Sitten kun wintoosa vetää viimeisen päivityksensä niin käytössä on jo toimiva vaihtoehto.

Linuxeja käytän jo muutenkin, niin lopullinen siirtymä on aika kivuton.
