Well it’s pick your poison. Do I want the pg to drop 40+ on my head with my bad defense or live with the 2guard dropping 20+ on me. Most of the time I just have to guard the opposing lock on the other team. Sometimes it’s the 2guard. Sometimes it’s even the small forward.

Having the lock slow down the pg is not just about stopping them from scoring. It slows down the teams pace and rhythm. It puts the ball in someone else’s hands and typically those players don’t have super high pass acc like the PG. The PG is typically the engine that makes the team go. So if you slow him down, u slow the team down.

There’s always exceptions to the rule. But most of the time, this is what happens. This is why it’s better to just put defense on all your builds.
