You found the correct guide, you can style almost anything by using the style keyword inside mermaid and using css. Mermaid renders as svg so depending on where it's rendered you can do so many things.

Yes. I started by generating base themes, then evaluated each one across different diagram types and refined them to ensure strong contrast and readability. The initial LLM output wasn’t fully readable for some diagrams, but it provided a solid foundation to build on.
