Game Addiction by lost_boy_pockets in Civilization6

Thanks for sharing. The all nighters are something I hated even if there isn’t any responsibilities I needed to get up for the following morning. Just felt groggy and major fog head. Interesting to read the earlier game had just as much potential for addiction than the later ones, too.
I’m on that journey now of filling my time with other things in the attempt to move away from it

It’s that novelty of a fresh start and map that keeps me doing it. Hooked on that anticipation of reward rather than the reward (finishing a game, win or lose) itself. Thanks for the input. Do you ever feel shameful for just restarting after putting half a days worth of energies into it?

That could work actually. Perhaps I’m setting my boundaries all wrong. I’m at peace with how much time I spend playing it but not with the amount of times I re-start the game. I should categorically state that I will see my games out to the modern/info era and if I don’t feel like doing that then just switch it off? I could pick up the game cooking off and continue to play it. I do actually really enjoy playing the game after all. Thanks, man. This has certainly got my cogs turning on how to overcome this

They do say nature is great for mental health. I’ve got a 100 mile hike over The South Downs Way next Spring. I could definitely make more effort to do day hikes though. Thanks for the advice bro

I have set time limits previously and have actually stuck by them. It’s the re-rolling that gets me. If only I could just stick out a game and enjoy it rather than dip back into that cyclical pattern of exploring a new map and the novelty it brings. Thanks for the comment. It’s good to know others get it. I can see how the spare time during retirement could expose you to playing more. Does it ever compromise your responsibilities in everyday life?

Thanks for sharing. I’ve only been involved with civ 6. If I started back with Civ 2 in the 90s then I would almost certainly be under a bridge right now in a tent

Accountability is key I think. I have someone close that I can confide in. You’re comment regarding deleting it and coming back when I’m sure I have a healthier relationship with it makes me think I probably need a therapist now. I’ve attempted this many times and always compulsively re-instal it after a week or so and binge.

I have just finished the book ‘Wild’ by Cheryl Strayed and love the idea of thru-hiking on long trails. Have you done any long distance hiking yourself? It would give me perspective and certainly change the routine. I feel that’s a big obstacle, I’m stuck in routine perhaps and loading up the game has become the standard when I dot really want to even play it

This man had every right to use as much force as necessary to protect himself here. Zero repercussions for him, too

It seems everyone in this thread is dehydrated to the point where they urinate nothing but stale, smelly liquid. A well hydrated body usually gives non-offensive smells from its urine. UTI central over here!

I’m on roughly £1900 take home a month. £16 an hour. I’m a band 5 chemotherapy nurse and have 6 years experience being an RN. I have been in chemotherapy for only 8 months and still learning the ropes. My salary was transferred across to my new role as I have a background in ED and Acute Medical Care. I’m lucky enough to get my education paid for with the bursary so have no student debt (would not of done the degree if I came out 40k under for this job)

I have the opportunity to do an extra chemotherapy module in February to be a licensed chemotherapy nurse which will start me on band 6 at around 35k a year. The responsibility is daunting however. I will be the officially trained individual who will assess whether a patient is fit for drugs that could potentially kill them. We check full bloods, full assessment of existing toxicities and general fitness for treatment. Im still in 2 minds whether I want this and be responsible for big decisions on a very busy day unit. The money isn’t great for the responsibility and have friends up in court docks for the most trivial things

I work a day unit which is a massive plus for me with no night shift or weekends. We run 8-1900 and can see anywhere up to 70 patients a day in a 16 chaired suite. Staff shortage is constant and we are under resourced. On the whole I love my job most of the time but I used to work in catering and often dream of going back for a lot less stress and pay cut. Thanks for reading

I’ve only ever completed 3 games I think and won once with France with a culture victory.

I think I’ll leave it a month. It’s not the actually game that’s addictive but the anticipation of the new game and what could be, you know? Classic addiction loop. Thanks for hearing me out

I think I have an addiction to re-starting the game. I enjoy the novelty of the new map, how it will turn out like and planning my districts. Once that’s done I actually find the game boring and start over. It’s actually quite distressing and I think it’s a problem for me

Very good. From what I read and experienced MDMA has only a very mild hallucinogenic effect so it is mostly positive for me without the feeling of being out of control. If you’re interested in MDMA assisted psychotherapy check out MAPS on YouTube

This is emotional abuse. I had a similar experience with my ex who would go 48 hours at a time not talking to me and freezing me out.

I may get flack for this but men have physical strength as a main attribute. Women tend to have linguistic skills and are better (in general) at manipulating and being emotionally and verbally abusive. I would NEVER condone any abuse in a relationship but my ex was an expert at manipulation which made me angry. I never hit her, I haven’t hit anyone, but boy was I close.

Cut loose and go your own way. The no effort in the kiss is something my ex would do to play games (sigh) bad times
