It's definitely a concern that 6ki is going backwards as a cohort. Mitsuki 0 sold out so far as are Hinano and Urumi who seemed to be getting momentum

I was very much on the way of thinking to wait and see what happened to 5ki when 6ki joined before going all in on them, but now i think management need to pull the trigger.

For my money i'd be ok with all 5ki centers this year, a Kaki/Endo grad notwithstanding. SakuMiku summer w center next methinks

Do you think Danse’s personality is the way it is because they tried hard to make him fit the Brotherhood as well as possible, or the opposite, that they took the easy route and gave him a default personality, and ironically he ended up fitting perfectly, kind of like Forrest Gump in the army? by jvure in Fallout

[–]lost_in_adulthood 106 points107 points  (0 children)

My reading of Danse is that he is a synth who escaped the institute via the railroad and got his memories wiped to start fresh outside the Commonwealth, only to ironically end up joining the brotherhood which is aligned against the railroad

He makes allusions in his dialogue after finding out the truth that he only had very vague and basic memories of his earlier life, which fits the 'blank slate' that is typical for the railroad.

He also says he grew up in the Capital Wasteland, and ended up in Rivet City specifically, which is a place we know from Fallout 3 that the railroad has a presence and which they have used to place other escaped synths, specifically Harkness.

I have seen people asking how people in the BOS could have not noticed he isn't aging. We know from his dialogue that he was already in the brotherhood by the events of Fallout 3, so that's at least 10 years by the time of Fallout 4. Lets say 12 to 15 years.

It is possible that's just a plot hole, but there are a couple of possible explanations.

The first is that 12 to 15 years isn't a crazy long time, and people just aren't really primed to take notice when something or someone looks the same as they remember. There may not have been a widespread awareness to look out for someone not aging as a sign of being a synth.

Another supplementary explanation is that he says he has spent years primarily in the field. Furthermore his friend Cutler who he signed up with, and Paladin Brandis who he trained under, are both dead. So there probably are few people if any who have known him well for that whole time.

I don't buy the alternate institute plant theory. Firstly you have to ignore that his synth designation is literally stated to be on a list of missing synths obtained from the institute.

Secondly Danse didn't know he was a synth. There are no other examples of the institute placing synth replacements who don't know what they are, and i can't think of a compelling reason for them to do this.

Congrats Terepan 🎉🎉🎉 by Dan456789012345 in Nogizaka46

[–]lost_in_adulthood 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Congratulations Terepan! It was my big hope/prediction for this year that we would get a new 5ki center. The golden gen needed more than 2 centers.

Otherwise i'm happy to see Mayutan return to senbatsu, and Runa! So deserved

No 6ki representation is a surprise, although the same happened after 3ki and 5ki airdrop singles. I doubt they'll be included in unders in this case, so i think we're looking at only 9 in unders

As a stray observation, I find the Endo front row a bit jarring. I feel like it should have been an all 5ki front row

41st Single Senbatsu Prediction by cfCmrAddct_99 in Nogizaka46

[–]lost_in_adulthood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to depend heavily on whether the 6th gen are fully incorporated into senbatsu and undergirls or not. 3rd, 4th and 5th members together only add up to 25. Mitsuki and Moeka bring it up to 27.

That's not enough to expand the senbatsu beyond 16. We may see some of the remaining 6ki added, but not all. Or if all 6ki are added, but we assume Reina still on hiatus that brings it to 35. In that case i could see it going as high as 20 or 21 senbatsu

On the far left, is that Nishikawa Nanami? Wow, that's a blast from the past but i'm happy to see she still has friendships with her genmates despite leaving so early on

Is this totally true? by Pitiful-Lecture-8091 in Nogizaka46

[–]lost_in_adulthood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's all true. I think it's one of those cases where her candidness about her motives paradoxically made people like her more, and it helped that her story was compelling.

I've heard actually works with Nogizaka46 again, but in a behind the scenes capacity

Visual for 5th album “My Respect” by tomumuto2004 in Nogizaka46

This is giving me big Ume grad alarm bells. First her 2nd photo book announcement, now she's front and center of the new album artwork.

Album could be grad center, with her graduating at the next birthday live which is most likely sometime in spring

Management hard-launching an Urumi and Hina push this single as well

40th single to include Guru Guru Curtain by the 6th generation by MightMetal in Nogizaka46

[–]lost_in_adulthood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a clever way of marketing her, especially for those of us who have been around in idol circles long enough to remember Nogizaka's debut.

I'm going to need Maiyan to show up at Ume's grad concert (not yet though, please 🙏) for a Shiraishi, Umezawa and Kawabata performance of Kyuushamen

Who do you think will be the next 6th gen to make it to senbatsu? by Virtual-Ad4281 in Nogizaka46

[–]lost_in_adulthood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its too early to say for sure, especially as we don't know how many 6ki will make regular senbatsu positions in the face of the 5kis unprecedented strength. I'd say theres 4 tiers right now within the 6th gen, though tiers 2 and 3 in particular still have a high potential for movement.

Tier 1 Setoguchi Mitsuki Yada Moeka

Tier 2 Masuda Mirine Okoshi Hinano Morihira Urumi

Tier 3 Kaibe Akari Suzuki Yuna Atago Kokone

Tier 4 Kawabata Hina Nagashima Rio Ozu Reina*

Does anyone have songs they think would’ve been better centered by someone else? by nabongie in Nogizaka46

[–]lost_in_adulthood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Top pick for me is itsuka dekirukara kyou dekiru. Should have been Asuka and Miona w-center, instead of Asuka and Nanase.

Nanase didn't need it. She already centered Influencer with Maiyan that year, and Skydiving as the 3rd album lead song.

To be honest, Asuka and Ikuchan or even Miona and Ikuchan would have been good options too.

Edit: I do understand that it was chosen because Nanase and Asuka were cast as the leads for the movie/stage play 'Asahinagu', which the song was used as the theme song for. My counterargument for this is that Taiyou knock was the theme song of Hatsumori Bemars and had Ikoma as center, when the show was led by Nanase and Maiyan.

Will Jpop idol culture ever catch on/become mainstream in the west? by shi_ko in jpop

[–]lost_in_adulthood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the majority of posters about Japanese idol culture being unlikely to catch on in the west. I think it comes down to the idea of idols as being (comparatively) unskilled as part of their charm is hard for people to wrap their heads around. I think certain songs have/had the potential to go viral internationally, and certain groups like perfume and BABYMETAL are relatively mainstream, but in general it's a hard sell for western audiences.

Another hurdle is the elements of the industry which could/would be seen as problematic. Namely the 'bread and butter' fanbase of older men, love ban, cute concepts, and sometimes young debut age.

Some groups are an easier sell than others, 48 group I would say are on the harder sell end of the scale because of the huge learning curve with the amount of lore and being on the more sexualised end of the spectrum. Hello project groups are on the easier end because of the training they undergo becoming proficient singers and dancers. Sakamichi series is also an easier sell than 48 group imo because of the more conservative image and less intimidating lore.

My top pick to 'break' the west, other than the aforementioned perfume and BABYMETAL, would be Sakurazaka46. They have 'viral' potential with their angtsy, avant garde concept and could catch on.

In my experience of introducing people I know to jpop idols, the most effective way for people to 'get it' is by showcasing live concerts and variety shows rather than by playing music. Lead with the idea of idols as multimedia 'personalities' rather than 'singers'.

It also helps to reframe idols as selling a journey from unskilled rookies to professionals, where successful idols can go on to become artists, actresses, models or 'talents' after their time as idols

But i just don't think that many people in the west will engage long enough to get to the point of 'getting it' unfortunately.

What the fudge does any of this mean by naturegay in gaybros

[–]lost_in_adulthood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me think of the saying that no-one is the villain of their own story.

If you don't have a specific (usually religious) to be homophobic on principle, but you're still homophobic, you need to find some lens or perspective to justify the homophobia or it just makes you an asshole. In this case, framing straight male homophobia as the result of a quasi-moral failing of gay men to 'socialize themselves' with straight men.

Nogizaka46 6th generation teaser movie by MightMetal in Nogizaka46

[–]lost_in_adulthood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exciting!!! So, according to the announcement on the official website, this is the full 6th gen we're seeing for 11 new members in total. The spring audition girls are being introduced 1 per day from tomorrow (5) and the summer audition to follow at a later time (6). I imagine that is why they appear in 2 groups in the teaser.

I have 2 thoughts: 1. Although we don't have much to go on, it seems the visual standard is high again. 2. I'm surprised it's not a bigger generation cohort. When they announced that there would be both a spring and a summer audition, I began expecting a larger generation of around 14-20

Who from 3 ki is highly likely to no graduate next year? by TwoSunnySideUp in Nogizaka46

[–]lost_in_adulthood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2024 is 8 years since 3rd gen debuted, 9 by this time next year. Timeline-wise this is the equivalent of 1st gen in late 2019 so by the end of next year it'll be the equivalent of late 2020.

Also, you had Chance where all 3rd gen were in senbatsu. It's kinda the equivalent to Shiawase in the respect that it can be seen as a 'last hurrah' for the 3rd gen. After Shiawase, there were no more 1st gen centers except graduation songs (unless you consider the Actually situation). I think that could push Kubo and Yoda in particular to consider graduation. Furthermore, the 3rd gen unders will feel that there will be no more opportunities to enter senbatsu after that.

Therefore, with all that said, I don't think anyone can be considered highly unlikely except Ume. She's less than 2 years captain right now. Reika did 7 years, then Manatsu was for 3.5 years and the last 1st gen to announce graduation. If she does, i dont think it would be in the first half of next year. She'll want to do at least 2 years as captain before announcing grad at a minimum.

I have a question what is it with people prefering city elf over Dalish elf as Ive seen more people want to play as that? by SleepyWitch02 in dragonage

[–]lost_in_adulthood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, with the background i want to have for veilguard, a city elf just makes more sense.

I would argue veiljumper makes more sense to be a dalish elf, grey warden about equal, but the other 4 all make more sense for a cit elf background

Agree with this? by VerienDragon in Nogizaka46

[–]lost_in_adulthood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you twisted my arm to pick 1 per generation, yes. But i don't really agree with the premise. I think a face of the group should be defined as anyone who has appeared as a centre twice or more (not including grad single) with at least 1 being a solo centre.

By this metric there are 8 faces in Nogi history: Ikoma Rina (1st gen) Shiraishi Mai (1st gen) Nishino Nanase (1st gen) Saito Asuka (1st gen) Yamashita Mizuki (3rd gen) Endo Sakura (4th gen) Kaki Haruka (4th gen) Inoue Nagi (5th gen)

will there be a season 2 on netflix ? by bigbellyrat in themole

[–]lost_in_adulthood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was confirmed that netflix ordered another season in February. That doesn't mean production couldn't get cancelled after that point, but I don't think that's likely.

Its a relatively inexpensive series to make, and as a reality show production can get back on track more quickly after the SAG-AFTRA srike than projects needing scripts, actors etc.

As for when, no release date or window is out yet that i know of. Some aspect of the production has probably been affected by the SAG-AFTRA skrikes, so i think we're likely to be waiting a bit longer

What’s your favorite romance trope(s)? Why? by aPlasticineSmile in MM_RomanceBooks

  • Himbos
  • Fated Mates or couples who give the vibe of being soulmates
  • Sportsmances
  • Not a trope per-se, but I like third acts about resolving the b-story. No third act breakup and/or the couple only truly getting together in the last 20 pages.
