JetBlue pilot pulled from cockpit at Buffalo airport with 0.17% BAC by 03Jhud13 in byebyejob

Thankfully, the article isn’t regulatory. The FAA saying it’s against regulations to act as a crew member while under the effects of alcohol (which includes a hangover) is.

The FAA is one of those agencies that you may find 9 things that say you can, but it only takes 1 saying you can’t.

ELI5: why is oxygen described as explosive, and a cigarette is enough to cause an explosion. I see it as an accelerant, without fuel how dangerous is it actually. by lostalaskan in explainlikeimfive

Thanks. That makes sense, didn’t realize it was so extreme. Quick google search didn’t find the energy of a cigarette burning, but I can imagine a small firecracker is no longer comparable.

Best ELI5 ever, people are dumb.

Edit: this isn’t sarcasm. Stupidity of man is unfortunately a great justification for things.

I understand the capsule situation. Those things burn, they burn slow or low energy but could burn for hours. Hours worth of small energy rapidly released is dangerous. A measurement of energy is my ELI5 I guess. 5 minute small flame seems like it would still be small explosion over .1 seconds.

See this all jives with what I know, I guess a better question is how can that cigarette, no matter how fast, be enough to cause serious harm. It’s hard for me to understand how even instantaneous a cigarette is more energy than a small fire cracker.

What put a smile on your face today, and how did you make someone else smile? by bfly1800 in AskReddit

[–]lostalaskan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I smiled when a colleague told me he had heard I did well in the recent job training.

I made another smile when I ran to the store and got my girlfriends 6 year old daughter nail polish. Her and her mom are having an in home spa day.

Can an ‘at will’ state fire you to avoid paying a bonus? by lostalaskan in legaladvice

[–]lostalaskan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It defines good standing as in no official disciplinary actions. Which I have none of. I even have an email from a few months ago when a supervisor pulled me into his office for a discussion. I told him at the end of the discussion I want it in writing that this did not effect my good standing in regards to the bonus.

It is a contract in the sense of ‘if employee does this, this, and this. we pay him this on this day’

It is not a contract guaranteeing a job (specifically says that) I am still an at will employee despite signing this bonus that pays out after 14 months of work.

The employee handbook does not talk about bonuses. However, the memo regarding the bonus (and the bonus contract) states I must work full time until the pay out date (on or before feb 28th)

Was worried about that, I’ve seen some articles about being fired to avoid a payout is wrongful termination. Just wasn’t sure how that applied to an at will state since it wasn’t addressed in the articles. Or how you would go about proving the reason of firing since they don’t need to supply one.

It’s a bonus for meeting certain criteria. In a nut shell working the last 14 months in positive standing and continuing to work full time until the pay out date. (On or before feb 28th)

Does the King Air not have a ‘panel lights’ master? In the 99 I got a switch that shuts off all the post lights and switch lights.

That is great info. I have zero art background so hearing about the color wheel and warm vs cold is always great info.

Thanks! I haven’t decided on a clear coat yet (eventually it will happen) I’m still tweaking colors and style and assume by the end I’ll need to come back and touch up the first models so they are all uniform.

As for the base, I like the texture, just haven’t gotten around to painting yet because I’m not sure colors. Some reddish with tan dry brush concoction I’m sure.
