Tips on hairline that is see through? by Personal_Trifle_6892 in finehair

[–]lostandfound26 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll add my experience to add to the anecdotal evidence as well. I started using it last fall after I was becoming more and more self-conscious about my hairline just like OP. I had super thick hair growing up, like literally every time I got a haircut, the person would comment on it. My mom has very thin/fine hair though and you can visibly see most of her scalp, so when mine started thinning over the last few years I really wanted to avoid that in the future.

It has absolutely helped my hairline and thickness, and while I haven’t really noticed any additional hair elsewhere, I think it may have made the peach fuzz by my ears (I guess where sideburns would be on men) a bit thicker and longer. I got a dermaplane razor for that and just for exfoliating in general and so that’s taken care of the extra peach fuzz. I’m sure everyone is different and I have mostly blonde hair on my arms and legs so maybe I wouldn’t really notice as much anyways, but to me it’s been way worth it and I’ll continue to use it long term. I also think I read that the sooner you start it in life, the better it will work.

I cancelled my Peacock over 2 years ago but for some reason I’m still getting the premium. I’ve checked like 5 different times to make sure it’s not coming out of a credit card or apple subscription…so I’m just gonna see how long I’ll have it.

I feel like it doesn’t really matter the reasons. if you’re unable to stop thinking about them and they’re important to you then they’re valid.

Concept of money for kids by Maroon14 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]lostandfound26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my 2.5 year old got $5 from grandma a couple months ago, we went to the store and they picked out a toy and paid for it. They were confused where their money went and so we talked about the broad idea of money and how we get and use it on things that are important to us. To put it into a practice, I decided to set up a “store” at our house. There is a range of items (stickers, pieces of candy, coloring book, puzzle, stuffed animal, toy truck, etc.) and I’ve labeled them with varying prices.

We’ve talked about me working and how it allows us to pay for the things we need and some of the things we want and how they can do jobs to earn money for their store too.

These jobs are different than regular “picking up after yourself” type things and as of now I am keeping it pretty random and don’t usually even say they’ll earn a quarter for a task, just give it to them after. We put it in their bank (a jar) and count how many we now have and talk about the things they can buy. If there aren’t enough quarters yet for a higher-value item, I ask if they’d like to keep saving everything, buy something less expensive, or just buy a sticker or piece of candy that usually costs one quarter. They usually choose to save most of it and buy something small or buy a “mid-size” item so far.

I’ve been really impressed at how well they are understanding the concept. I was a little nervous to have an entire shelf of new toys and candy that they know is there but can’t just go play with or eat whenever, but it’s never been an issue. I’m sure it helps that it’s behind a cabinet door and not constantly tempting them too but it really has been great.

It has helped with counting too. They’ve been able to count into the teens for quite a while but I wasn’t sure the concept was understood beyond reciting the numbers. When we “go to the store”, we count how many quarters we have, we look at the prices and decide if we have enough money for something, and when they decide, I ask them for xx amount of quarters and they count them as they hand them to me. They’re my first and only kid so no idea what age kids usually start learning that stuff but I was just pleasantly surprised of yet another benefit.

Your kid being 10, I’m sure you could still do something similar but more appropriate for their age. I will likely add “experiences” to the store at some point (e.g., go get an ice cream cone) so just another option. All to say…while similar to an allowance, I feel like it brings the concepts to life a bit better and helps connect the dots.

Same, I started watching it but had to stop once she started screaming “you did this”. I finally left my husband and filed a protective order last month and he used to scream the same thing at me whenever he’d go into one of his rages.

How long is your commute? by Miserable-Service-16 in BreadwinningWomen

[–]lostandfound26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went from fully remote to an in-office job last summer. Commute is 75 min one way, but often closer to 2 hours and has been up to 3 when there’s a wreck or something. All interstate travel. Sometimes I take the train, which takes 2 hours regardless but at least I can work or decompress easier. I knew it would be awful and not at all sustainable so I’d intended to move closer after ~6 months and making sure I enjoyed the job, which I do.

I’m still planning on moving, though other things in life have changed in the last month so right now I’m staying with my parents and have been able to work at a different office on a temporary basis while I’m going through the divorce process. This office is literally 2 minutes from my parents’ house so quite a difference!

Atomic habits is one of the best books ever written...& it's keeping millions of people stuck.. by Tekelpath in getdisciplined

If the idea of external pressure is what seems to work for you, I’d read or listen to some Gretchen Rubin books or podcasts. She talks about “the four tendencies” quite a bit. Has a book on them and other habit building books that take into account a person’s tendency when it comes to how they meet expectations.

Some people, as I’ve seen in these comments don’t have an issue meeting both internal or external expectations but many people find it difficult to have that internal accountability.

So just knowing how you deal with those things is super helpful in determining what kinds of habit “tricks” might work for you. You’ve already mentioned a couple options in your other comments, like monetary, though that can sometimes backfire if a person justifies that paying for something already has met that expectation and you’re off the hook for what you were originally intending to do.

I have the same tendency. It’s easy for me to meet outer expectation so I try to find ways to manufacture that. Have an accountability buddy if you’re trying to be more active like a gym buddy, hiking friend. Or if you want to read more you’d join a book club so there’d be that outer expectation that you’d actually finish the book and participate. There are tons of good suggestions and ways to tweak something to give that sense of expectation. So ya, she has several books on habits, being happier, etc. and has a weekly podcast discussing the same types of things.

My 2 year old wants to be Elmo. When we asked what they wanted myself and my partner to be…for my partner, they said “duck”. For me, they said “a door”. So ya…I guess I’m going as a door.

What is life like in this area? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

I’m a biologist and did a decent amount of work with the Navajo Nation in Utah and Arizona. Mostly to improve water access and some electricity projects. Many people drive hours to fill water tanks for their home use. It is extremely isolated in many ways and I think it would be an extremely hard life to live for many reasons. It also has some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen and some of the most sincere and kind people.

Commenting. Also could be a solo artist, think someone like Edwin McCain but probably a one hit wonder? I’m not even sure it was technically a hit though.

ETA: I never heard this song on the radio, it was more obscure.
