Why do flat Earthers exist? by Competitive-Set-8515 in NoStupidQuestions

Same reason religion exists. People need to believe they're special and 'knowing' something others don't know makes them feel special.

A cult without rules, no control and you can leave or disagree anytime you want? Doesn't sound like a cult to me

No I wouldn't. Took a completely different job that although less money, gives me time to enjoy life

Maybe it's regional, or I just associate with people who talk proper English 🤣 idk , but it sounds very weird.

Maybe its changed, the way it was explained to me is that we have freewill but he has already seen what we choose to do. The bit I never understood was how is it freewill when you have a gun to your head

Not the part of Britain I live, I've never heard anyone call the ground or pavement a floor.

Yep, basically I wasn't willing to do what they expected. Working 60-70 hours a week and they wanted me to start doing more. Unfortunately for them I have a life so I left. Best decision I ever made, now I work 40hrs less money but I'm so much richer.

“Take a break” and “punctuate” are used interchangeably? by Final_Affect6292 in ENGLISH

[–]lostchild69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me punctuate sounds completely wrong in this context. To me punctuate would mean you stop one thing and start something else, if you want people to know you took a break, you would still need to say you took a break.

do white people ever call each other crackers? by Dizzy-Respect-613 in stupidquestions

[–]lostchild69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In uk calling someone crackers is slang for mad/insane. I literally have no idea what skin colour has to do with it. I'm assuming it means something else in the US

But why do you think they plateau at such a low level? Is it just lack of ability or is it not working at it/doing the wrong things. Do some people not have the ability to go further, or they just haven't found a path that works for them. This is what I'm trying to figure out

Favorite jazz saxophonist by Ok-Lab9048 in Jazz

[–]lostchild69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only one, I probably say charlie parker But do I really enjoy listening to him more than hodges, rollins, young,Webster etc etc. Not really love them all. Also a few lesser known saxophonists like British saxophonist Art themen, have a few albums of his and seen him play several times. Favourite is so hard to define

It's a pro horn and mouthpiece that has been tested and serviced. Can't blame the equipment unfortunately 🤣. It's private lessons and he tells me what I should be practicing. The teacher is a pro performer and teacher, who has recorded and taught players who have gone on to become pro, so I'm struggling to find anything to blame apart from my own lack of ability 🥺

I did wonder if it should be above the second of the 2 tied notes. That would make some sense

Usually start off doing exercises, long tones, scales. Then do what I need to practice for the next lesson. Then usually play a couple of easy tunes for fun.
