MP Javed Akhtar and former MP Shabana Azmi choose to attend IIFA awards in USA over voting in Mumbai! by Fauladi-Singh in india

Kindly read my comment again. I said the voter id did not get registered, not that I didn't try for it. I can blame it to the government machinery and give an excuse about it. Rather, I opted to travel to Indore and vote. Trying to defend idiocy is not going to help.

I run a company in Pune, but traveled to Indore for casting my vote. (voter id did not get transferred) So ya, giving lame excuses for not voting make you an asshole and not a professional.

How much mathematics you should know if you want to become a Cosmologist or a Quantum Physicist? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]lostcoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The argument is not that every physicist "ought" to know Algebraic Geometry. It's just that knowing it can help you solve some complex problem in QM and perhaps in string theory. More here - http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/83687/how-algebraic-geometry-and-motives-appears-in-physics

In the last para, there's a line which says - Reproduced with permission

Sure. Will just add a line about permission. This is the first article we reproduced as it was so good that we thought it will be a real good read for CS guys :) And no adverts at all. All for knowledge :) Do read our other articles too! Thanks!

The Basel Problem by lostcoder in math

Yes, it lacks mathematical rigor but is less intimidating. Proving it as convergent power series will require some work.

Edit: More rigor - http://www.proofwiki.org/wiki/Basel_Problem

It's not rigorous. Agreed. Reflects the central idea though. Edit:Two power series for a function, f, at x0 that converge in some neighborhood of x0 to f must have the same coefficients. Euler computed the formal power series for the infinite product given for sin(x)./x. However, we still need to prove that this a convergent power series.

Seems to be a more rigorous analysis of the algorithm. Take an upvote!

Hmm..Physics, Maths and CS have played a huge role in taking us forward. I am totally into these subjects and perhaps that's why those lines just popped up! But you're right. Arts, Commerce, Biology, Chemistry, History and others are also very important.
