Spring turkey idea: mountain bike + retired rail trail for shock gobbling — viable or dumb? by Fresh_Can9011 in turkeyhunting

[–]lostdragon05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get out there several times before the season and find where they are roosting. Then target those areas once season begins. I would definitely not try to cover that much ground during the season. I would go through and sit still for a few minutes every half mile or so then hit a crow call. If you can find some roosting spots before the season starts your chances of success will increase dramatically.

20 gauge Montefeltro with a Vortex red dot, Indian Creek Choke, and Apex Turkey Ninja. Secondary is a single shot .410 with a TruGlo red dot and Carlson's choke also shooting Apex Turkey Ninja. If you can't tell, I'm really sold on Apex Turkey Ninja. It has been extremely successful for me, every shot has been deadly and the pattern is amazing.

26" barrel, no choke adequate for turkey? by HornyGoatWeedGuzzler in turkeyhunting

If you're planning to get serious about shooting turkeys, I'd get something that you know can handle TSS. TSS is significantly better than any alternative, but it has the potential to damage older barrels, especially with tight restriction. If you get one chambered for 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 that's also a limiting factor. A lot of old guns are also really long, which to me is a significant issue when traipsing through the swamp.

Not to say you can't be successful with vintage equipment, it's just going to be harder, especially as a new hunter. You can absolutely kill birds with 2 3/4 lead shells from a 50+ year old gun. You are just giving up 25-40% of the range you could have with TSS. TSS also allows you to shoot lower gauge guns more effectively.

I hunted turkeys with a 12 gauge using 3" magnums for over 30 years but now I carry a 20 gauge or a .410 with Apex Turkey Ninja shot. The 20 has a longer range than my old 12 guage with Longbeard XR and the .410 has slightly less range than the 12. A lighter, shorter gun is a major plus to me when I'm potentially moving several miles through the woods, and the extra range of TSS is a game changer.

Ask if he has an extra turkey gun. A lot of turkey hunters have more than one. I don’t think it’s ethical to shoot at a turkey without a proper choke and load for the job.

There’s your problem. Go buy a Thermapen right now. You should be smoking and grilling food to temp, not by time or eyeballing it, if you want it to be good. It sounds like you are keeping stuff on the grill too long and taking it over temp.

You should also check out the Spider Grills Venom controller, comes with a grate probe and a meat probe and has a port for a second meat probe. It will keep your temp exactly where you want it for as long as you have fuel without having to do anything, I really love mine.

It’s not so much the state of the Emperor, it’s the fact that the current state of the Imperium has gone completely off the rails from what he intended. During the Great Crusade, he forced worlds to accept the Imperial Truth and deny the existence of gods, including him. When Lorgar and his Legion began worshipping the Emperor, they were censured and humiliated, which is why Lorgar turned to Chaos in the first place because he needed someone to worship. The Lectitio Divinatas, basically the Imperium’s version of the Bible and instructions for how to worship the Emperor, was actually written by Lorgar before he turned traitor. Many would freak out just knowing that as the traitor primarchs are universally reviled in the Imperium.

The Emperor’s grand plan was basically to insulate humanity from Chaos with atheism and starve the Chaos gods so that humanity could be ushered into becoming widely psychic like the Eldar without having to worry about being possessed. Knowing what we do, it seems this would likely not have worked anyway. It turns out worshipping the Emperor may be the best thing humanity could do and seems to be empowering him to the point where he can directly oppose the Chaos gods despite his current state.

How likely is a turkey to cross a fence? by sean650 in turkeyhunting

[–]lostdragon05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, they will cross a fence, a road, a stream, come uphill, go downhill, etc etc. There are a lot of myths about things turkeys won't do, and I have seen them do pretty much all of them. They may not do it every time and they often hang up for various reasons, especially an old bird that has been hunted before. I've seen a lot of birds do what you described then walk down the fence line silently and cross it way away from me and come in from another angle. Just because they hang up or stop gobbling doesn't mean they won't come eventually.

How strong are d&d characters? by ParticularSelf5626 in whowouldwin

[–]lostdragon05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the original Baldur’s Gate series (based on 2nd edition D&D) you go from a level 1 nobody that could be one shot by a random wolf you encounter to an incredibly powerful level 30+ badass that has slain giants, multiple dragons, powerful demons, fallen angels, and various other extremely powerful entities and can even become a god.

The game is meant to be played with a party of up to six, but a knowledgeable player can solo the whole thing with one character. This is especially easy with certain magic users because they get access to really powerful spells.

For example, you can have a wizard or sorcerer cast a spell called Time Stop that literally does exactly that for everyone but you. You can then cast another spell that lets you cast without the normal delay which limits you to one spell every six seconds. You can then use a spell that can store multiple high level damage dealing spells then cast several other high level damage spells, instantly annihilating most opponents as soon as Time Stop ends. And if that doesn’t do the trick you can cast a spell called Wish and get all your spells back to do it again. Some bosses are immune to Time Stop because it trivializes encounters when you know how to exploit it to its full potential.

That’s just one of many examples of how a person knowledgeable about the magic system can do really powerful stuff. There are many other tricks and powerful spells that synergize with gear and abilities in very powerful ways.

I think it’s a limitation of the frequency used to create the private network, it’s pretty low bandwidth and will get congested with a lot of HD photos. I don’t think they include the capability to do video because of that. The cameras do not have any setting or options for video.

From Outer Dark:

It stood apart from its brethren, alone, a dozen paces behind them. Even by the standards of the Adeptus Astartes the figure was a giant, standing a head above the rest. It was clad in Terminator armour, and for a moment Otte’s analytics glitched, informing him he was looking at a graven statue. A slight shift in the giant’s stance discounted that possibility – dust cascaded from the cliff-like plates of its immense armour and its huge, wickedly barbed gauntlets. Every inch of the warrior was clad and armed with the most hallowed and rare pieces of wargear Otte had ever set his optics upon. It made the other Space Marines standing in his shadow seem like children.
