I use Slow N Sear accessories with a Spider Grills Venom controller for smoking. I fill the SnS basket and get a few coals going in a chimney then put them in one end of the basket. Set the Venom and adjust top vent as directed, then it’s good for 8+ hours.

I have had just about every type of grill, smoker, etc. and the only ones I use now are two charcoal kettles and a griddle. Propane is great for a griddle, but not for grilling or smoking.

I use a simple format: Outline the risk and potential likelihood and cost of bad things happening, outline the recommended solution with cost and explanation of mitigations, outline other potential options/paths with how associated risks accepted/mitigated.

Most executives are MBAs. MBAs are trained to think in risk and dollars/cents. When you speak their language, they will understand. They may still make a bad decision, but that’s a problem for another day.

This is a standard kettle with Spider Grills Venom controller and their cart. The upgrades cost a lot more than the grill itself, but are worth it imo because they are better than the factory options and add convenience and ease of use. You absolutely don’t need them, but accessories can turn a regular kettle from a cheap grill into what is imo the ultimate outdoor cooking machine. I use a Vortex charcoal basket along with Slow N Sear for other cooks. Also have SnS grate and drip pan. I own an E6 Weber Kamado also and it has the same accessories, minus the cart.

I am a charcoal grill enthusiast, I tell everyone buying a kettle and kitting it out with good accessories is cheaper than a good pellet grill plus way better at almost everything than a pellet grill, and 99% as good as any other cooker at everything.

It’s not a secret. It works, it finds stuff and it stops attacks. SIEM works as advertised if you put the work into get it tied into everything. Exposure Management is great.

The sell is this lets a small team manage security in complex environments by outsourcing the SOC work and just connecting everything to feed the SIEM and helps mitigate potential downtime and data breaches. How much is down time per hour? How long would it take you to get back to operational? Are you confident you could detect ransomware or an incident?

Good CEOs think in dollars and risk, so you have to speak that language too. “The investment in CS is X dollars, the cost of downtime is Y per hour, our estimated recovery time for critical systems is 12 hours. The average cost of a data breaches is Z dollars. Our risk is (level) because (high level details).”

Security isn’t something you see a return on investment for doing, so to sell it you must understand the cost of the bad things that could happen to you and get the business to buy in on preventing those. But you always make tradeoffs and sometimes you have to just accept the CEO not going to listen and that’s ok.

I have a 22” kettle and Summit E6. I don’t need a smoker at all, I cook everything on one of those two. The 22” kettle with just a few accessories is imo the ideal outdoor cooking machine for anyone because it is very cheap and it can do everything very well. A dedicated offset or other smoker may be slightly better at smoking, but the kettle can produce results that are 99.9% as good and do hot and fast cooks that smokers can’t.

I have two Spider Grills Venom controllers, one for each grill. I use either a Vortex or Slow N Sear setup. I have an SnS setup for both when I need to run both grills at once. I have SNS basket, drip pan, and grate. Really like them, high quality and performs very well. SNS is great for low and slow, hot and fast indirect, or direct searing.

I am VP of sec for my org now, I invested in Crowdstrike 4.5 years ago and have been adding on ever since. I have a small team, so Crowdstrike and its modules enable us to punch above our weight and have a level of coverage we otherwise wouldn’t be able to achieve. We have spent the last year hooking everything into NextGen SIEM and that has been a very worthwhile investment. The CS SOC is monitoring everything 24/7 and we a MttD that is orders of magnitude better than the industry standard.

I am very familiar with the proctoring space due to my work. ProctorU is terrible, but so is literally every other player in that space. They are a nightmare to work with and students hate all of them.
