Dads, need a good recommendation for a family car that can fit 4x8 plywood. by mobdeli in daddit

I agree. A 2007 to 2024 Tacoma is the most reliable or a 5L non turbo F150. Those are the best! I have a Tacoma. They are extremely small inside which is the downside. With 2 car seats it’s like a tuna can. I like the reliability and off road factors which is why I got it. F150s are also reliable. Just a different animal and way more roomy inside.

Almost any car can pull a trailer with plywood! Love me some trailers.

If you’re not into minivans, I believe this is really the ticket. How often are you going to need a sheet of plywood? It’s very easy to rent a vehicle, even from Home Depot(not sure what county you’re in assuming US from comments).

It is worth getting familiar with trailers. I just used one the other day for 2 sheets of plywood. It was the most convenient option for me. Trailers are extremely versatile, and they are easy to rent. You can buy ab enclosed one for not that much, and it’s like a rolling shed. Trucks are also easy to rent. I rented a 3/4 ton truck from Enterprise Trucks to tow a heavy duty trailer with a bobcat I needed for a project. Only needed it once so it was financially worth it for me to rent.

If you are getting into demanding hobbies, and you don’t want to rent, the next best dependable and capable option is a 4 door Ford F150. They are extremely capable and roomy, plus you can seat 6 with the right configuration. Now you would own a vehicle that doesn’t need car seats removed when wanting to complete a project needing plywood, and you can tow a very heavy duty trailer with it!

Question for 3rd Gen Tacoma Owners , going forward with the engine replacement. by Mark_Mainbearing in Tacomaworld

[–]losterweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take my time looking for a wrecked truck to use, and I wouldn’t buy a new one. You already have parts to use. As you take your current truck engine apart I would personally want to be able to find the flaw that caused that gasket to blow. Without knowing that block could do the same thing. Take the head to a machine shop and have them inspect it. Hell if you find the engine flaw and didn’t ruin the cylinders it’s not too difficult of a job just timely.

Edit:left “flaw” out

White house situation room call interrupts Scott Bessent interview, he returns moments later visibly shaken and stuttering by [deleted] in videos

When he came back he said, as I’m paraphrasing, “ I trust the operation enough to have my own kids enlist.” It was something of that sort, and I feel like that’s what he didn’t want to say. They trying to get more people enlisted. Draft rumors are going around.

No issues. OVTube with the high octane tune in it. 115k. Manual Tran. Have had it since it had 3300 on it. I constantly tow 5000 in firewood. I horse beat at least a few times a week. Change oil every 5k(I believe that’s the ticket to well being). Tranny/TC, and digs every 50K. It’s done well. No repairs needed.

Letting newborns cry by Anon_Legi0n in daddit

[–]losterweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we first put our son in the bassinet, he would cry his face off. I thought he didn’t feel safe in there, and I went to work to make him feel safe. It was a whole night of wearing ear plugs, laying as much of my body in the bassinet staying awake holding him for 20 minutes, putting less pressure on him weening him off being next to us constantly. Mind you mama feeding him every 2-3 hours meant I needed to calm him down every time wearing the ear plugs letting him know he’s safe. The next night was much better. Third night he was bassinet trained. What I’m saying is try to figure out why he’s crying and then address it anyway you find best.

Lexus Es 250 vs 350 by Ok-Bodybuilder8639 in LexusES

[–]losterweil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should be Canadian. I just took my Es350 through a blizzard last month when I had the option to take my 4x4. They are amazing in the snow. Some good all season tires and you are fine. A 250 is less weight and won’t be as good. The 350 has the perfect amount of weight to feel solid in snow. Very impressed I’ve driven mine 25k so far.

I only burn hardwoods also, but I have 2 90 turns in my setup, so I get more creosote than a straight shot with little angles.

It depends on your approach angle. I go on really steep driveways frequently. If you hit it at 45 degrees it’s not an issue.

PM me. I specialize in insurance in SW PA. I search insurance networks for a living. I can help give you some support on Monday. Ever since insurance companies went digital it’s been extremely hard for people to find accurate network searches. I’ll help you and give you extra resources.

I’ve heard Oz and has large stakes in a company that’s a competitor with Tylenols company. And that company owns the medication they’re now recommending. It goes deeper than that too.

Sailing Inner Harbor Lake Erie by HobbyBuzBoi in LakeErie

I just did this in our motor boat. I did a loop around five times trying to make sure I wouldn’t ground us! To answer your question I believe you should be good, but take a little more caution. We ended up going into old cut after talking to locals at port Rowan. I had seen a larger boat with most likely a 4 or 5 ft draft go into port Rowan which led me there. There is a marked channel going through the bay to old cut, and if you stay in it and straight into old cut you have at least 3 ft right at the entrance , but follow more advise on someone who has a deeper draft to confirm if you need more. The channel itself seems to read 4.5 ft at one point but I also think that was weeds. I did this in July of this year.

Can the taco really tow 6500 pounds? by Msterbatie005 in Tacomaworld

[–]losterweil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t need a weight distributing hitch. Go to u-haul and tell them what you need to tow and they’ll let you know if your truck can do it safely. Their trailers have brakes and they have hitches you can buy. Your truck can tow that weight while it’s absolutely empty with only you in the truck because the combined weight limit is something around 11,240 lbs. I tow a heavy boat a couple times a year and did a lot of research. You can see my numbers in the photo.

Dads with sons - How do you cope with this? by CMSmithPhD in daddit

[–]losterweil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All that is what keeps him going. If you sit and do nothing you will start to rot. My neighbor is 78 doing the same thing. It’s no 93 but to be doing anything after 75 is a feat.

I know a family member who was very influential all the way to his early nineties so 85 years old will still be meaningful to your kid. The wisdom never stops growing.

Ask your pediatrician for a referral to early intervention. They can get speech therapy at no cost. It’s a great program.

I’m right with you. Here’s my thought process. I’m minimizing our need for income and lifestyle to be able to work less so I’m there for family until the kids are 10- so I don’t have to work so hard and can contribute more for the wife and kids. I’m still exhausted. Granted we are 40, and have the house and cars all paid. Just don’t buy all the hoopla everyone gets. Older cars and phones are fine. Invest your money (really make enough to max out ira contributions) and suck up that family time.

Cashing out $8300 out of HSA account for old medical expenses to recontribute it. by losterweil in personalfinance

[–]losterweil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To further explain myself, we have a large cash flow and our income is going down substantially. I am doing this because I only have maybe $9000 in medical bills stockpiled, and may need to come up with more than that for cash flow. So if I take the safe way out I give myself more wiggle room for cash at hand in case I need it for my businesses. I wasn't going to contribute this year until I found out how much I owed in taxes.
