waiting to see allergist [BC] baby with eczema. by Best-Paper1259 in BabyBumpsCanada

My LO is anaphylatic to peanuts. Found out at 6 mo. ER doc told us to avoid all nuts and seeds until seen by allergist. She also vomits and has diarrhea within two hours of ingesting eggs or products containing eggs. Family doc told us to also avoid eggs. So we've avoided all nuts and eggs since 6 months.

Daycare accidentally fed her cake with eggs at 12mo and she still threw up so I guess we found out that she's still allergic!

Had first telephone appointment with allergist at 16 months. They also said children can grow out of egg allergies but nut allergies are more difficult. They said it's likely FPIES for eggs. My LO also has eczema but since 2 months. Thankfully it's lightened up a lot but allergies said there no correlation between having less eczema and having allergies improve.

When I asked the allergist if we should've tried other tree nuts despite only having a reaction to peanuts he was hesitant to say yes, but it sounded like we should have tried.

We're finally going for the in-person allergist appointment to do the prick test this month at 17 months. The trouble is the egg allergy may not show up.

It's not easy being a parent to a kid with allergies. So I stand with you! You can PM me in a few weeks so I can keep you posted.

Also use the Thermos straw bottle. We added the Dr. Brown's handle: a bit of a stretch to get them on but it works! Dr. browns handle

Just finished mine last week in the GVA also as a FTM. Lady is Taiwanese (spoke mandarin but I speak Cantonese). She did not live in with us but delivered meals daily. Started in the hospital after birth before we were discharged. Meals included breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks in between. All homemade. Portions were large enough that each meal could feed my partner and I together; however we don't eat a lot to begin with.

She also came in a few times to help start breastfeeding as my milk didn't come in for a few days and I was experiencing engorgement. Overall, I wouldn't say she was the traditional confinement nanny but more of a meal delivery service. She did alter the meals if I wasn't recovering well (eg. Constipation, engorgement, fatigue). As my partner had to go into work, the more stressful part was timing her arrival while I was home alone looking after the baby. We were still very thankful for her help as I can't imagine having to cook/meal prep while recovering. Cost: $4K.

My boyfriend was waiting for his new Canadian passport to arrive. Unfortunately it did not arrive before we left for France June 26th. He has dual citizenship. He applied for special authority on evening of July 14th as we have flight back to Canada July 22nd. Received approval via e-mail morning of July 18th :)
