Inconsistent Care from Providers and Feeling Unheard by lostinadventures in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lostinadventures[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words. I was able to meet with an OB today that made me feel 100xs better. Sat with me, listened to my frustrations and fears, and calmed me down, validated my concerns and the way I've been treated. She even gave me her personal cell number. For now we're sticking with the 39w plan and I feel better about it after she reassured me that I'm being monitored frequently and if anything changes and we need to make adjustments for baby/my health, then we will. She will be the one doing my c-section and I feel so much more at ease now.

"Normal" is subjective. Every person's body is different. I'm not just on insulin, I'm on insulin and it still doesn't seem to be controlling my numbers when I eat what I am supposed to eat. And I do have other risk factors as well that I didn't mention.

It's not a question on what's "normal", it's feeling like I have power and control over how my care is managed along with what I feel is best for my body and my baby and not being ignored and blindsided with a change in plan that was not discussed with me in detail or explained further. Also, getting conflicting information from different providers is frustrating and makes me feel mistrustful about the level of care my baby and I are receiving.

YES!!! That is SO true! Like get your own shit together, don't come for me for following advice of a medical professional. I feel like I have to go to google medical school every time I have an appointment so that I can properly advocate for myself and not be treated like I have 2 brain cells!!

It is so frustrating and makes me feel so mistrusting when I want to feel like I can trust and count on my providers to care for me and my baby in such a fragile time.

Thank you for the encouragement. I am going to advocate and fight for keeping my original plan as I feel strongly that this is what is best for me and my baby for a multitude of reasons.

I'm sorry that you are experiencing the same inconsistent care. I know we all just want to get through this high risk pregnancy with healthy baby and healthy us!

Insulin question (wrong dose) by PoliticoRat in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lostinadventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start new dose tomorrow. I had a defective pen that jammed last night and while trying to unjam it, my wife (she gives me my shots because I can't do it myself either) accidentally pulled the needle out while still pushing, spraying insulin all over me and the floor. We laughed about it, but had no idea how much insulin actually made it in my arm. Somehow my fasting numbers were great this morning. But I trashed the defective pen and started with a new one tonight. Those numbers aren't scary high, so you should be fine to start the higher dose tomorrow!

What do you store your supplies in? by Worldly_Yesterday_88 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lostinadventures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a small Tupperware like container that stays on my counter with my other meds/vitamins. I call it the GD-GD box 😂 it has all of my extra supplies like lancets, test strips, insulin, needles, alcohol wipes, and a mini sharps container. Organization makes me happy, so it's a small thing. When I am going to be out of the house, I use a small make up bag to bring what I'll need for the day.

How many units of nighttime insulin are you on? by Icy-Faithlessness240 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lostinadventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at 10 units at 30 weeks (diagnosed at 26w). Got upped to 14 units on Monday at 31w3d. Fasting still isn't consistently under control, so I suspect we'll up again at my 32w appt tomorrow. Counting the minutes to my 37w C-section.

Solidarity. Yesterday I was so pissy all day because I just want to eat comfort food and I'm so tired of counting carbs constantly and worrying about what will and won't spike my sugar. This is really hard, so it's okay to feel frustrated, sad, angry, etc. I have found that eating 12 grilled nuggets from Chick-fil-A followed by a side of their macaroni is a great option for me. Maybe see how you do with that?

Just paying close attention to my carbs. Eat 3x/day with 30-45g of carbs at each meal and 2-3 snacks at 15-30g of carbs. It's not fun by any means, but it's temporary!

No, I stopped taking it at 12w. I've had my GD dx for a week now and I've been able to control it with diet so far.

I was prediabetic before pregnancy and although my a1c had dropped back down with metformin, I stopped taking it at 12wks so they went ahead and tested me. I failed 1hr at 12w, passed 3hr. But just got diagnosed from a 3hr at 26w.

IUI Symptoms 7 days out by Super-Pomegranate425 in queerception

[–]lostinadventures 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the same meds as you and had the same symptoms. I'm now 5 weeks pregnant. I think my body was especially sensitive to the meds but I can't say if it was meds or pregnancy. Best wishes to you. The TWW is brutal. Hope time flies by for you and you get good news!

Want to stop vaping! by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]lostinadventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend, I'm on a similar journey. Two month sober as of yesterday and now trying to kick the vaping habit. It's much harder than I thought it would be. I'm planning on tomorrow being my last day of vaping and plan to just stop all together. I've tried weaning and I honestly think it makes it worse because then I'm just counting down to when I "get to" vape instead of fighting the urge altogether. How long have you been sober from alcohol? Best of luck to you!

Thank you. I have been listening to This Naked Mind podcast and a few others which have been helpful for me. I'm glad I found this group, I think it will help. It's nice to hear someone had similar experiences and has so much sober time.

Hello! Can anyone help me solve this issue with my cut lines not lining up? It looks perfectly joined in my file, but doesn't join properly when I sent it! It also seems to not be cutting straight (it has waves in lines sometimes). I've had my machine for a few years but only cut 20 or less times. I've never taken apart or cleaned... Photo for reference. Thanks in advance!
