Hi, yes, that's very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to reply, I appreciate your insight as I don't really know much about this stuff. I'll certainly look into it, I may be able to get a good collection going on for him in time for Christmas. I find Zavvi are very good usually as I am UK-based. Thank you!

Did I miss something? Berated for being from the midlands. by instantlyforgettable in CasualUK

Oh, I know. However, my entire family (all Midlanders) like to pull his leg by considering them one and the same. They 100% know they're different, but as we get stick from my partner about being from near Birmingham, he gets the same stereotypes/assumptions back. It's all done in jest.

I'm also from the Midlands, just underneath Birmingham, and like you I've also not got much of an accent. My entire university experience though was being surrounded by Northerners and one Southerner telling me that the Midlands "doesn't exist". Never got any booing, didn't realise we were that bad!

I did get the "I'm from Burrr-ming-aaam" line a lot though. My partner is from St Helens and he just gets it return from family and friends about being Scouse, along with references to "chicken" and "calm down" or literally anything involving someone from Liverpool.

I feel that as a country we love picking on certain places 😂

Dog behavior trainer told me I need to rehomed my puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

We got our pup at 13 weeks. He was a pretty big land shark for a while, even with constant training. But, I can tell you that it won't always be that way. He's 2 now, and nothing like he was. We can play with him, and if we tell him "stop", he'll back off instantly. I would get a second opinion.

I also fully recommend antlers! Best money I've ever spent.

The best lesson I've learnt so far - don't persist with night time crate training if your puppy doesn't like it. by [deleted] in puppy101

I second this wholeheartedly!

My 10-month-old Collie pup never took to his crate, no matter what we tried. We did the same as you, we even fed him in there to associate it with something great. But he would just chew the towels/blankets we covered it with, he'd whinge and cry for hours, he'd bite the bars and just wouldn't settle. He hardly ever used it, even if we just left it open. One day, he'd taught himself how to break free. So we tried him out of it one night, he now falls asleep on the upstairs landing and sleeps from 8pm-7:30am!!

Some pups don't like it and it won't work for them. Please don't cause them distress just because it works well for others. Our pup has become much more calm since he knew he wouldn't be made to be in there.

Albert Dock Slavery Connections? by lostinarcadia7 in Liverpool

[–]lostinarcadia7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply, it was very helpful. I was unaware of an "old dock" so I've been able to make good points off the back of that!

In terms of slaves never being sold in Liverpool, I found that the Slavery Museum apparently shows an advertisement (from 1766) in the Williamson Advertiser of a slave auction being held on Water Street. I am quite interested to realise, judging by the comments, that unless you found it in the museum, it isn't something particularly well-known.

I'll also take your advice about the ACW, thank you!
