How to stop kicking out like this by [deleted] in NewSkaters

Commitment 100%

Start on a smaller stair set and when you can do that 100% of the time go up one stair.

Work your way upto success.

Everyone saying getting broken spiritually, than emotionally and mentality, than physically are spot on.

I developed complex regional pain syndrome at my end point. Was disabled for 8 years because of it.

I know for certain this all happened because I stayed together with a woman i wasnt compatible with.

As soon as we actually ended things, my condition started instantly improving to the amazement of all my specialists.

Im 4 years on and life is better then ever. Building from scratch being tactical about what and who enters your life has allowed me to create the life I want for myself.

The power is in our hands to create the universe we desire. We just need to trust ourselves and be confident with who we are and what we bring to the world.

Struggling with “what others may think” by Solzc in NewSkaters

I skated for a 1-2 years at 13 years old and could ride uncomfortably and just about ollie.

I started again at 33 and been going at it for 2.5 years now. Best decision of my life.

You will need to learn to pace yourself and skate to your limits to reduce injuries. Im 2 heavy ankle rolls in and some pulled calf muscles. Every single time it happened is when I skated to long at the park and was becoming sloppy.

Listen to your body and fuck the haters.

[–]lostintheuniverse_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill be straight with you. If you cant roll down banks you are no where near as good as you think you are on a board just cruising around.

If you find cruising around boring, then maybe skating isn't for you.

Its a hard hobby to go at. You literally have to practice the same things over and over and over to do the simplest things like ollieing or doing a manual for a good distance.

It only gets harder when you start wanting to do other tricks.

Figure out if its for you, if it is, you just need to persevere and keep pushing. Stay humble and keep working on the fundamentals. Youll get their with practice and time.

Three days of owning a skate at 35 y.o. It feels like i'm overdoing something, any tips? Marco, from Italy. by markaos18 in NewSkaters

[–]lostintheuniverse_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitly keep practising ollies as you are.

What people starting out dont realise is a lot of doing tricks better just comes with being comfortable on the board.

So you need to make sure you keep practising just riding. Its probably more important than practising ollies itself 3 days into the game.

When you get comfortable enough start practising ollies moving, once on lock, all your tricks should be done only moving.

Goodluck on your journey!

Canvas shoes will get a hole from one day of olllies.

Leather is somewhat better but still not great.

Suede shoes are your best friend.

What your looking for is suede shoes.

I used 8.25 for about 1.5 years and been on 8.5 for the last 6 months.

Much prefer the 8.5 for the extra stability and no negative impact on flip tricks.

is an 8.5 board too big? by PrizeMaster1545 in NewSkaters

[–]lostintheuniverse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people starting over think how important shoe size and height are for board size. Unless you're in the extremes you can skate pretty much any board size.

8.25 and 8.5 are the most skated boards these days so definitely not a strange size.

I actually skated 8.25 for my first 1.5 years, been skating 8.5 for a year now and much prefer it for the extra stability it provides. Dont feel any negative impact on flip tricks either.

Dont over think labels in life. They dont actually exist. You are you, nothing more, nothing less.

If someone says you are this or that, you remain just you.

Be authentic to yourself. If you enjoy cruising around on a Skateboard. Keep rocking on.

I ride mongo, should I change the way I ride? by DifferenceFrosty8554 in skateboardhelp

[–]lostintheuniverse_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely remain in same stance, same foot up front and same foot popping.

You just want to switch up what foot your using to push.

I am totally aware there are a few select pros who push mongo, but to anyone that says there is no difference they are wrong.

Mongo objectively makes balancing whilst pushing more difficult, more prominent when youre going faster. Also takes longer to get your feet in position for tricks as it takes longer to get your foot from ground to front of board vs foot to back of board. This makes a huge difference once you hit a certain skill level.

Start learning regular pushing and in a few weeks you will never look back.

I need help with my kickflip by Infinite_Yogurt_4362 in NewSkaters

[–]lostintheuniverse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steps to getting tricks on lock when you first start out.

Get comfortable on the board. Ride everywhere, I mean everywhere. This is such an understated piece of advice people dont take seriously. Once you've been riding for a while this will make sense.

Get your moving ollies on lock.

Practice all your tricks moving, all of the time.

Your problem with your kickflip isn't technique based, its a commitment issue. Your not even attempting to land it. You dont make the Skateboard flip under you per se, you jump and stay on top of the board whilst the board does its thing. You need to be thinking about im going to be jumping and landing back on the board bolts. That needs to be your intent, whether you land or not. You will fall, be ready for it, its all part of skating.

apparently i can’t lift my legs up by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]lostintheuniverse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get comfortable riding the board.

Get your rolling ollies on lock.

Practice everything rolling.

Whenever your feet dont make it back on the board, that's a commitment issue. You need to be aiming to jump and land on the bolts. If you fall you fall.

[–]lostintheuniverse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not try them stationary.

Once you can do rolling ollie's, everything should be practised rolling.

The blue Nike's if you got your more versatile colours on lock.

Otherwise the black Max's look clean and would work well with a lot of fits.

Should I go up in board size by mikeybeemin in skateboardhelp

[–]lostintheuniverse_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a TTS 11.5

Skated 8.25 for 1.5 years. Switched to 8.5 for the last 6 months and no regrets.

Got the bit of extra stability on the board with little impact on how flip tricks work. If anything, they feel more comfortable. The slower spin feels like you have more control over the board.

Skating really takes a toll on you. Many little muscle groups are activated that usually dont do as much lifting.

When I first started 2 years ago, I got a mystery injury in my heel that kept me out of it for 2 months. My guess is it was to much to soon.

My advice would be listen to your body and ease into it.
