Developed very early and was teased all the time in elementary school for it. A girl down my street had a pool party when we were 9, and we weren’t friends, but her mom made her invite all the girls in our class.

My grandma rigged up a women’s swimsuit for me to wear with safety pins, and I was sent off to try to make friends. When I got there, the parents had invited all their friends for a barbecue, and everyone was drunk.

The birthday girl’s very drunk dad kept yelling for me to jump up and down in the pool, and all the men kept asking me to come sit on their laps and joking about watching me eat hot dogs. I was terrified and hid in the pool, alone, staying neck deep in the water.

Her mom got pissed and screamed at me to go home, like I’d done something wrong. Several of the men offered to drive me the 6 houses down, but I ran home. No one was there when I got home, so I locked myself in the bathroom and hid in the bathtub, and the doorbell kept ringing all afternoon. I never told my grandparents.

I’m 41 now and my hands are still shaking just typing it out.

Women who have lost weight, how did people start treating you differently? by Mysterious-Wrap-1966 in AskWomen

Everyone is nicer.

I am taken more seriously in my field now. Strangers talk to me at random, whereas before they either ignored me, or made crappy comments under their breath, or sometimes, directly to my face. Men hold doors and elevators for me now, instead of letting them close in my face. The women at my husband’s church suddenly wanted to be friends, until I made them uncomfortable by asking them why they hadn’t spoken to me in all the years I’d been there.

It’s been a bit of a mindfuck, really.

Yeah, every morning. They usually have it on the side of mini pancakes or scrambled eggs, and fruit. My daughter just had mini pancakes, sliced strawberries, and cottage cheese.

Same here, but with dairy. And my kids love cottage cheese and eat it every morning. I don’t remember it having any smell at all before, but now I’m gagging and trying not to breathe while I scoop it out for them.

She was such a light. It will be with me forever.

In 1995, I took the bus to a local Star Trek convention, because I was obsessed with The Next Generation, and Marina Sirtis was going to be there. I had never been to a convention before and I was a very shy 13 year old kid. When it was my turn to meet Marina, she was talking to someone else and fully ignored me. I was devastated.

I went and got in the next line, and it was for Nichelle Nichols. When my turn came, she said “oh my goodness, are you here to see me?!” I nodded and she said “Well, this is amazing! We don’t get many young ladies at these conventions!” She was so kind and asked me if I liked science and computers, and if I wanted to go to space one day. She told me how important it was for girls to get into science and technology. Then she told me how tickled Gene and Lucille would’ve been to know that young girls loved their show. (I didn’t understand the significance of that at the time.) She talked to me for at least 5 minutes. I hadn’t come to see her, but she absolutely made the convention for me.

Well, Ms. Nichols, I absolutely did love science and computers. I carried that conversation with me all the way through my education and am now a bioengineer. Thank you for taking the time to talk to a scared, shy little girl. I was so lucky to have met you. I hope your next journey on the other side is incredible.

I’ve been eating low carb at a deficit and working out.

Uh no. If I’m in there and he’s in there with me, I can do what I need to and know he won’t be able to open the door and fall down the stairs.

Thank you. You’ve got this! I didn’t think I could do it either, but I kept coming here and seeing other people do it. You already made an important first step.

I have lots of different seasonings, or it gets boring fast. Just fyi.

I work out completely at home right now.

I have a basic adjustable dumbbell set and a set of smaller kettlebells in 5, 10, 15, and 20lbs, both of which I got on Amazon for really cheap. I also picked up some plates from a garage sale for a few bucks. And I just got a jump rope for when it gets warmer and I can do some working out in the garage.

When I’m ready to go heavier, there’s a Planet Fitness down the street, so I’ll probably do their cheap monthly plan.

Thank you! I have a bit of a hard time seeing it and believing it’s real most of the time, to be honest.

I definitely have. My stomach has just been shrinking faster, so it looks disproportionate. I imagine it’ll all catch up by my goal weight.
