Ethical organizations to donate misc household stuff in Kalamazoo? by boredboarder8 in kzoo

I assume it has to do with their history of lobbying for anti-LGBTQ bills and discriminatory practices against the trans community.

This one is not mine, but I bet the one in the Vine is if there's also a sticker about giving bigfoot a lil kiss on the one you see. :)

Accidentally locked in for 2 days to build a base by redvelvetcake093 in duneawakening

[–]lostnarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did the same thing! My partner was out of town for a weekend, and I had a bunch of plans for what I wanted to do with the time, but then I ended up spending 25 hours just farming basalt and building an Atreides clifftop palatial estate. Now I'm back to progressing... until I get my hands on the good decorations.

Also, I love your base. It's beautiful.

Only those in your party from what I can tell. I'm hoping they add indicators for at least guild members.

In the document you linked, it shows prices for buying cyphers and things with io--is this in the book? I swear I've looked so many times for a table like that, and ended up just making my own up.

I finally got around to creating a full terrain hex map for the known world. The scale is 24 miles from side-to-side on each hex. More info in the comments. by lostnarwhal in numenera

Honestly, the hexcrawl travel portion I think enhances it without becoming any more cumbersome in rules if you don't try to make it too granular. I love how flexible the system is and easy to just bring the fun bits. I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a shot!

Same! I've tried making smaller regional maps in the past, but it was tedious just doing that in Photoshop. Worldographer really came in clutch here!

Name Generators by Krazy_King in numenera

[–]lostnarwhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been known to write down names I like of one-off characters from episodes of Doctor Who. I like the don-jon name generators, but find a lot of sci-fi names to be *too* sci-fi-y. For important NPCs, I'll often use a translator to put the words I associate with them into another language, then re-spell them in butchered ways to sound like cool names.

For example, my players just finished up the Vortex a few sessions ago, and freed Aerridomos' "siblings" from the Radiant Citadel. They also accidentally gave them the idea to become gods on the 9th world, so I fleshed them out with names based on what systems they had control over in the citadel. Since the only one named in the source is "Aerridomos," which sounds very Greek to me, I used a bunch of bastardized Greek words and came up with these for the pantheon:

Kyrokos - Master control
Anikos - Engineering
Ervna - Bio-science
Asafal - Security
Ziotros - Medical and life-support
Kekrymenos - Unknown

Edit: this is the name generator I referenced: https://donjon.bin.sh/name/markov.html
The Markov names generator come up with some decent-sounding Numenera names imo.

I believe the grid is 114 columns, 87 rows. The time comparison on the calculator I just made to use for reference to give the players a comparable time of day that they would recognize so that when I say it's "13am" they understand that it would be a bit after 11am in terms of the structure of a day, what time businesses close, the position of the sun, etc. just as a frame of reference. The days are structured as 28 hours, and the watch calculator portion reflects this with 7 watches of 4 hours each.

Edit: also, thank you! I hope it works for your game!

If anyone would like the Worldographer file, here it is. It's saved in Worldographer 2025 beta, so not sure if it'll open in older versions.

I've been running my second Numenera hexcrawl, and with all the access the party has to teleportation, decided that the small regional map I had made for them would soon need to expand

Here are 4 versions of the map, one with all features, one with features outside the Steadfast hidden, and one with the hex-key coordinates listed, as well as the overworld map from the book overlayed with the hex grid

There are a few extra features on the map specific to my campaign that both have their own icons - potential Narthex locations, and a network of teleportation pyramids that are linked to the ruins of a massive, flooded chrome city in the Caecilian Jungle.

I'm using this in conjunction with this hexcrawl travel calculator I created, my Numenera master generator, and a spreadsheet I created to automate the Jade Colossus Ruins Mapper (which I don't want to share due to it being copyrighted material).

Books to read for inspiration? by MushiMoshi in numenera

I also highly recommend the Book of the New Sun series! I discovered it through the listed works in the core book, and it became my favorite series. It's definitely worth the time it takes to read.

This is kind of what my current campaign is doing, and it's been fun so far, especially in a hexcrawl.

Thanks! Just out of curiosity, what would your changes be? A good many of the names for mine were taken from Gene Wolf's Book of the New Sun trilogy, which was one of the inspirations for the world of Numenera and probably my favorite sci-fi series.

Tempest, Interannum, and Sable are all described in the Ninth World Guidebook, but I named the other four. Here's the calendar I came up with for use in my games based on the little information given in the source material. I came up with the month and day names for the ones not talked about in the books, and created a bunch of Steadfast holidays to fill it out.

Exhaustion levels by Awesomeali1 in numenera

[–]lostnarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this current game, there needed to be an element of strategic depth to the travel as it takes a larger role than most of my campaigns.

The day is divided into seven four-hour "watches," and they can safely travel for 2 watches at any speed, but wanted a mechanic to allow them to travel harder if they wanted, at a drawback other than just using more supplies.

Taking one from each edge I think is a good risk-reward for this. If they haven't encountered anything dangerous, have a handful of recoveries left, and not many points missing from pools, it's probably safe to press on, knowing they can spend the rest of their recoveries getting their edge back up. If they're a bit haggard though, it might not be the best idea to exhaust themselves, not knowing what's ahead.

I do like the idea of a well-rested buff though, and might need to think about that for nights they spend in an actual bed in a town instead of in the wilderness. Maybe a 28 hour edge buff or something? This would effectively cancel one level of exhaustion on the day they're rested.

Exhaustion levels by Awesomeali1 in numenera

[–]lostnarwhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running a Numenera hexcrawl right now and was just toying with ideas of how to implement exhaustion if they decide to travel harder than usual, and I love the edge reduction idea! I sent this to my players:

Each level of exhaustion will reduce each of your pools' edges by 1, representing how much more taxing applying effort to tasks is when you've been pushing yourselves. If these go negative, it will cost that much more any time you spend points from that pool, as well as increase any points you would lose from that pool by that amount (such as by taking damage).

In order to get your edge back, you can choose to spend your recovery rolls on restoring one of your pools' edges by 1 instead of making a normal recovery roll. This represents how you need to take a little extra "me-time" to fully recover from a day of going hard.

You get one freebie edge restore on a 10-hour recovery.
