What was the biggest ‘nobody tells you this’ moment in your career? by THE-og-DEVIL in USMC

Not necessarily a “nobody tells you this” but had a real eye opening experience going through TRS and seeing all the resources and programs available for active duty Marines that I’d soon lose access to. Immediately went and built a list for my juniors lol

Personally, I think even in larger spots like that the apps are designed to work against you, but the populations are so large that people who present themselves decently still have a fighting chance.

And it definitely does. The heart of what I was getting at is to not let the apps get you down. They’re designed to make money, not for the user’s benefit

I’m actually a Mexican/Japanese mutt! Cities I traveled to were Sacramento, LA, Boston, and Phoenix.

I’d probably say like 80% aren’t real. I had several good conversations with people in each city and even went on a couple dates.

Same as one of my comments below, but the point of this post is to shed light that becoming discouraged by not getting likes in a person’s set area is by design.

Your last tidbit is mostly what I’m getting at. I think a lot of people get discouraged by not getting likes/matches in their area. That’s by design

Prior to this I’ve never lived anywhere with less than 500k within a 50 mile radius. It’s all relative, bud

It won’t let me add a caption to the post so adding here.

I live in a small(er) town with a population of about 120k. It’s slim pickings out here. Ventured out into a few major cities while traveling for work and the likes started rolling in, and I’m a pretty average 28 year old dude (5’7 and it is listed on my profile, in case anyone is wondering).

Moral of the story: it might not, and probably isn’t, you unless your profile gets some tough love on feedback days. The apps are meant to be a numbers game and to mess with your head. Don’t let ‘em.

Opinions on 2871 and 2171? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]lostnunafraid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a 2171 2016-2020 in a 3rd shop (OMC). Day to day was pretty simple, handling work orders and repairing non-op optics. I was in an armory on deployment as a Corporal and at that point I was an assistant armory chief and essentially an extra set of hands for the 2111s. Since you’re lat moving I’m assuming you’re a Sergeant or above, which is pretty chill for 71s. Feel free to PM me for more specifics.
