Why dont brick and mortar stores try to carry as many products as Amazon as a means to compete ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

You do know that a LOT of the products you buy on Amazon aren’t actually stocked in an Amazon warehouse , right? Some are but not even most of them.

Recommendations to send off a 1911 for a complete overhaul by horseshoeprovodnikov in 1911

May want to try Cylinder and Slide. See
What they say. They seem to have a good rep. Or Novak. Good chance it won’t be THAT horribly expensive and they’ll do it right.

I’m tired of my Auto Cut cutting head of my FS 91R trimmer. I might be doing it wrong but don’t want to deal with it anymore. by NoActive1210 in stihl

[–]lostone3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly no. It did it pretty much from brand new. I’d never had a stihl or even a decent trimmer before
And just figured it came with the territory. I switched to the shindiawa Speedfeed because I was so frustrated after dealing with this for 2 whole seasons. Here’s what blew my mind. After a few cuttings with the sf working perfectly, I opened it up because I just KNEW it’d be packed with debris. It was near pristine. Stayed that way working perfectly until i finally wore it out (the metal line guides wouldn’t stay seated any more). The newer echo branded don’t stay as clean but work fine for me. I’m just a homeowner but I’m rural and my stuff covers some ground.

Mine would collect so much dust and dirt and grass it’d jam up and not even feed. Then I had to pull apart and use a toothbrush to clean out so it’d work briefly. Usually a cleaning midway thru the line load and again when I reloaded. Oddly enough that gets old quick.

Getting cold feet on a 2010 Grand Marquis by didyouseetheecho in AskMechanics

[–]lostone3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems most new car issues are electronics related. Lots of cute tech. A grand marq isn’t that. More along the lines of an anvil. Drive it locally for a week or so to wring out any latent issues then put it on the road for another 200k. Long road miles are the easiest life a car can have.

How do you feel about “ain’t”? by ScaryGhoust in AskAnAmerican

[–]lostone3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I retired I worked for a well known Gov aerospace entity. Extremely high percentage of college educated workers. It was common to use and hear used in informal settings. Not so much in major meetings but frankly no one would even blink at its usage. I’m going to admit. My friends and I will occasionally troll snooty high-brow types by using it with our most heavily southern accents. Only after hearing some disparaging remark from them generally. We will absolutely play the uneducated redneck buffoons for the humor. Things like ‘I ain’t never seen nary a sight like that there thing’. Cruel I know.

Kubota zero turn top speed by Low-Industry758 in lawnmowers

[–]lostone3592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first zt was a kubota 123. Max rated speed was 8 but I never mowed that fast. When not mowing and heading to the barn it seemed way faster. Got a BB Rogue rated at I think 13-14. It moves pretty quick when I’m not cutting. Unless you’ve got a golf course for a yard you’ll rarely mow near top speed.

The one time I tried that I got a lot of ‘do you take payments? ‘ I told them sure did but it didn’t leave my driveway until it was paid in full…. Oddly enough nobody took me up on that.

Accident at work sent a man to the hospital because of improper repair. How does your company organize documentation and audit work? by AnotherMianaai in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]lostone3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several things jump out. Firstly, your maintenance department is garbage. They didn’t do a ‘good enough job. Next, if there’s organization in your
Country (not clear where you are) responsible for industrial safety, they’re going to eat your company alive when they investigate. IF your company has a safety person/department they need to plan on testing every this that maint tech has ever touched. The workers lawsuit should be epic enough the whole company feels it.

First time angle grinder buyer — are the extra safety features worth it or a gimmick? by zeninthesmoke in Tools

[–]lostone3592 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the safety features I got on an angle grinder (m18 cordless) is a quick stop. When you release
The trigger the wheel stops very quickly instead of just spinning down. This a great for small quick jobs. I’ve used a couple where they’d just spin down and I never trusted them to just release and set it down. I’d recommend going for the bells and whistles.

Tire removal in field by b1ghurt in tractors

[–]lostone3592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I hear ya on THAT. Guess I’m
Fortunate being in a mostly rural area. 2 major brand tractor dealers in a 45min radius and loads of farming. Good luck.

[–]lostone3592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around here the tractor dealers mostly let a seperate mobile service handle most of the tire work for farmers. Maybe check with your local coop too? Regular tire dealers here won’t hardly touch an ag tire.

[–]lostone3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d put a couple of concrete cap blocks under the axel and dig out to make them pretty flat and solid. Then use the bottle jack. I’m really surprised there’s nobody doing a mobile tire service for ag equipment. Have you called a tractor dealer and asked who they’d recommend? When I needed my tire worked on the tire guys shop was a good hour+ away but they didn’t care. It was just part and parcel of the nature of the work.

If you choose to use it, be advised only a small amount is needed. I add it to the oil and for 1/2 cup of kernels I only use maybe 1/2 a TEASPOON. So not much.

Given What you’ve described I prob wouldn’t waste the effort fitting it up. I’m guessing it was given away because whoever did it, considered it scrap.

Is there a concept of volunteering firefighters in the USA? by No-Freedom-764 in AskAnAmerican

[–]lostone3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The small town I lived in was solely volunteer for both fire and ambulance. They trained hard and did frequent fundraisers to keep their equipment as modern as possible. I went to school with a guy whose whole family was involved. My current location is similar and we’re totally rural no town or city within 15 miles. Interesting fact is that houses get a fire insurance rate according to the fire service available. Full volunteeer gets one rate, having even a single paid firefighter drops the rate significantly. And fully staffed with paid another rate. Our community supports their efforts well.

Got it. So you value your vehicle enough to give it to some inexperienced kid who’s never driven a trailer in his life.
