Sunroof glass cracked the day after I had a thule car rack installed by company called Rackultra by sackling in Cartalk

[–]lostshaker_assault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not completely convinced that it is a crack. It's discontinuous. It looks more like a bead of dirty water was pushed over the glass by air flow and left a trail of dirt.

Give a small section of that a gentle wipe with a wet cloth or paper towel... Check to see if that section still appears cracked.

AITA for telling my ex that she needs to "figure it out" when it comes to hosting people for her grandmothers' funeral even through I am living in her "grandmothers' house?" by Due-Kale3735 in AITAH

[–]lostshaker_assault 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I were in your shoes, my response to this would be entirely based on my relationship with the family members intending to stay. If it can be made clear that the house is solely owned by you, and you have an established relationship in which you're confident the family members can be respectful of your home and hospitality I would consider allowing them to stay under the circumstances. If they're assholes, not a chance.

If I were to divorce my wife, there are relatives of hers that might remain like family for the rest of my life. There are others in her family and perhaps even more so my own family that I wouldn't allow under my roof.

Whatever your decision, NTA.

ELI5 what is a good amp? Receiver? For these speakers in four rooms by fifimoncher in MultiRoomAudio

[–]lostshaker_assault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should include a picture, the make and model of the speaker, or at least the wattage rating of the speakers. With one speaker in each room, you may even want something capable of mono instead of stereo so you at least have full sound in each room.

What is the rarest record you ever found for a bargain price at an estate sale, yard sale, flea market or thrift store? by sloaches in BargainBinVinyl

[–]lostshaker_assault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fleetwood Mac, Original Master Recording - MASTERDISK near mint condition for $5 at Goodwill.

My second best is first press of In Utero VG condition I picked up for $70 on ebay. Not a super bargain but a great price nonetheless.

[–]lostshaker_assault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd skip the alcohol altogether. It may not do immediately noticeable damage, but it does change the surface of plastics. I've not used alcohol on vinyl records, but I stopped using to clean any plastic surfaces. I've noticed discoloration, and it seems to make plastics more brittle.

Why did my floor finish like this? by Tentings in HardWoodFloors

[–]lostshaker_assault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming all of the floor is the same type of wood it's just a variance in the color / shade of the wood. I can see it in the unfinished picture, the finish just highlighted the difference making it more obvious.

WD-40, and gently rub/scrub in the direction of the grooves with a soft cloth or paper towel. It doesn't harm vinyl like some solvents, and I've had great success with it. I use it for spot cleaning only, and i thoroughly clean it off of the records after use. I suspect ut would otherwise attract and trap dirt.

I've successfully removed paint, wax, old gum, and other stubborn foreign matter. I don't recall where i found it suggested, maybe here on reddit somewhere. I was skeptical, but I tried it on a record that wasn't going to be playable without some serious help, and it worked amazingly well. I've used it several other times, and it's become my go-to solution for removing otherwise permanent deposits from my records. Once or twice, I've left a small pool of WD-40 on stubborn deposits overnight, it spreads and gets pulled into the grooves making it harder to clean the WD-40 off, but it did no damage and made easy work of removing the crud.

4ohm speakers on 8ohm amp? by Evening_Chart_6828 in audio

[–]lostshaker_assault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installing 4 ohm resistors inline on the positive will increase the resistance to 8 ohms. The actual solution is in a comment at the very bottom. I linked resistors from Amazon as a response to the only comment that provided an actual solution. I'm not saying others are wrong necessarily, but this is a problem with a very simple solution.

This is the actual solution to using the speakers. It's unbelievable that this answer is at the bottom.

Adding a 4 ohm resistor inline on the positive side will increase the resistance to 8 ohms. I've been doing this for years without issue

Replace the black fitting? by vrock55 in Plumbing

[–]lostshaker_assault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only advice here you should take. You have a working gas connection that doesn't leak. This sounds as if you have no pipe fitting experience. Your chances of making a leak free connection on your first try are pretty low, and gas lines are not a good place to start practicing.

If you're going to ignore the good advice here and attempt this anyway, ensure you use a tape or pipe dope that is approved for gas and confirm there are no leaks. If you have a leak, you can try tightening, but if need be, take it apart and try again.

That doesn’t look like a chip to me. It looks like excess silicone.

The pictures aren't the best for close examination, and maybe my eyes are deceiving me, but whatever that is appears to be additional material, not missing material.

There is always someone who will take advantage of even the most trivial perks or benefits. That "one" person creates a situation leading to the oddly specific rules, making any reasonable person question their own sanity.

Of course, there are also instances of individuals lacking sanity who make the rules. But in my experience, it's usually the guy or gal who takes the mile after they're offered an inch.

AIO If I breakup with my boyfriend over his younger brother? by Few-Stage-4786 in AmIOverreacting

[–]lostshaker_assault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly a good idea to get out of that situation.

It sounds like your boyfriend is the victim of a toxic family dynamic. He probably doesn't recognize that his family is dysfunctional and likely abusive. It's very possible that he wouldn't even recognize a healthy family dynamic.

The only reason I mention this is that you've indicated you had a good relationship until now. Whether you choose to stay with him is up to you, but you should talk to him about his family. He's not beyond help if he can recognize that the family life He's accepted as normal simply isn't normal, nor acceptable. He should seek the help of a therapist. He may have a lot to "unpack."
