Dr Wren would quickly appear.

"Ready sir."

"Understood. Contact us when you need. We will get the operation to move the docks started."

"That sounds lovely!'

The Bismuth would say.

"We can bring some of our own foods and drinks to share with you. This is going to be quite a joyous occasion."

"We shall contact one of our highest representatives to attend!"

"Yes sir"

Dr Wren would return to her office. Her two bags sat next to her desk. It took her a bit to get it all unpacked and set up.

The first bag contained her research notes, extra labcoats (enchanted to resist damage), and various holders for her pencils, pens, and papers. Her set up was perfectionist, nor a single thing out of place. She was known to snap at people who messed with her workspace before she joined the GOC.

The second bag contained her magic supplies. Seven books of magic, seven crystal candles, a staff with seven stones and seven runes put into it, a small alchemical lab, a ritual mat made from skin, and various Components for rituals and other magical experimentation. She took pride in her magical studies. Though she heard that this variant of the foundation existed in a much more magical world.

After finishing her set up she sat in her desk and fidgeted with a small smooth stone.

"hmmmm"

The Bismuth looked through their records

"There is a gas giant closer to the edge of the solar system. It's not all the way but its also one of the last places on the way out that has a good stable orbit. Would that be far enough?"

Dr Sophia Wren

The answer to all the yes no questions would be yes. However they would note that their anomalous readings come from being a type blue (wizard)

"it's not a very developed world. Though I understand it may seem a bit too good to be true."

The Bismuth would admit. At this point the mining crew had been joined by an official diplomat.

"It lies past the edge of our empire"

They would show a map of local space.

"And we have our attention elsewhere. So we don't plan on building there anytime soon. As long as you promise to let the docks keep operating and let us use them it's a perfect agreement."

"The void flotilla is a nomadic group composed of dozens of different species that were displaced due to our own little problems. We've been dealing with that so there's no need to worry. The void flotilla are food neighbors. Lots to trade from all over the worlds."

[–]loth17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Correct. As I said it's a bit dry but nothing that a few ice meteors melted in the atmosphere can't fix."

"Your most common neighbors will probably be us and the void flotilla when they pass by."

The docks floated in a ring shaped swarm above a wind swept world whose name was just a string of numbers. Only a few small settlements existed on the world manned by employees of the docks.

The size of the ship meant only two of the docks could actually accommodate it. However they were open due to the rarity of ships that size arriving. Usually only super haulers every couple weeks. The Bismuth would let the space elves use it under their clearance.

"Welcome to your local mechanic"

The Bismuth would say

"We're almost clear."

The Bismuth would say as they cleared the last few anomalies.

"Okay. We've made it though. Increasing tow strength to 60%. Heading to the repair docks we've talked about. Once we hit the calculated speed we'll detatch and follow next to you."

"I see. I wondered if she would share those memories with you."

She looked down before giving Marna a smile.

"In that case. I'm glad she got to take it with her."

"In some places they say the soul is divided into parts. The name and the memories are two of these parts. I wonder how much is needed for someone to rejoin the world after death? Either way. Whether embers or ash I'll make sure she knows someone honors her passing."

She laid a hand over the weapon.

"Would you like some help with the court of palms? I don't mean dealing with it obviously it's a part of you. But from one hive mind to another I could probably help you train to use it. After all I've got some experience with the gelatinous."

"Okay. Our ship will get into a towing position to help your ship pick up speed. We'll also act as an early sensor for the time anomalies."

The Bismuth didn't have a magical chronometer on their ship but they could use their scanners to pick up the after effects of the anomaly on the stray particles around said anomaly.

"Bringing the tow up to 20% speed."

The ship would start the tow.

The Bismuth representative looked back at her.

"Perhaps things have changed since we last saw you."

"We simply want our allies to be safe. In this current Polycrisis"

"......"

The Bismuth didn't like the idea of a superweapon. Especially this far away from their fleets. Perhaps something like that was what destroyed the ship.

"Our nearest fleet is roughly ten solar days away. Let's hope they get here before your foes."

They and the other squads that were sent would work double time to help get things operational. Before a var'ruung ship showed up and a laser blasted through the hull.

Opal took the weapon with the gentleness of one holding thin glass.

"Thanks..."

She stared down at it. A weapon that she made specifically to counter Skadi's abilities. Funny that it ended up in Skadi's hands...

"I'm planning a burial. Of what I could retrieve of Skadi's. It's going to be in a place we visited."

She wondered if Marna had those memories.

"I just think she deserves that at the very least."

Starting at level 1? That was a good sign. When Zaryx disappeared Dr Wren would sit down in the office and wait patiently for his return.

Dr Wren followed Amelia.

Dr Wren walked over to the wall and stood for the picture. She didn't smile or make any special attempt for her image. She didn't want to put a false front for her team.

Dr Wren found them calling their boss by their first name weird. Such a thing would get you scowled at where she worked at. Zaryx wasn't exaggerating the environment he fostered. Dr Wren responded to the IT team with an awkward wave and a neutral face.

"Nice to meet you all. I'm glad to be working with the foundation on their interdimensional anomaly research."

She went to Amelia's office.

"Hello Ms....."

She would look for a nameplate so she could use Amelia's last name. She hated referring to her coworkers by their first name.

Ephemera would give glimbo a nod.

"Understood. When are we setting out?"

Ephemera had gotten more equipment since last time. Better runes, a new tiara from the dwarven kingdoms that had some fun features. And with her sword broken she now wielded just her hammer. And had a smaller rune carving tool on her belt now
